I'm delighted to say that, after many years anguishing over the desperate state of Killarney NP, I'm seeing a partial ecological recovery, like this wild baby arbutus tree. Such positive signs can only mean one thing: the NPWS must finally be taking a more proactive approach to invasive sika deer.

The assault on EU regulations is not about "simplification". It's about a handful of polluting legacy industries and laggard companies trying to kill the emerging clean alternatives. From pesticides, diesel cars, gas boilers to PFAS coolers, it's not env vs economy but rent seekers vs innovators.

Spotted alone by our SWT/KWS Canine Unit during a training exercise, the tiny calf was tracked for hours in the hope he would find his family. But no other elephants appeared. A year on, shy little Daba has blossomed into a confident, calm and increasingly mischievous young elephant.
