The rights we now have, and that many in our community take for granted stand, on the struggle and activism of, (amongst many) two trans women of colour who stood up for us at a time when we needed it most. They made our fight their fight. However many in our community have forgotten this. 9/12

Sylvia led a troubled life following the death of Marsha. She ended up living in her own makeshift settlement by the Hudson River and struggled with alcohol. However in the last 5 years of her life she returned to political activism. 8/12

Marsha died in July of 1992 when her body was fished out of the Hudson River. Whilst the police wrote it off as a suicide, those who knew Marsha were convinced she could never do this and were sure that foul play was involved. 7/12

10 years today I found out I was #HIV+ It was a piece of news that changed my life. But rather than live in fear of it I chose to be open, vocal and to live for all those who didn't feel strong enough to be open themselves. 10 years on I'm healthy and very happy! #LiveWithoutFear
