Fire Emblem Fates. It was a tough map and I was near the end. Checking a battle stat before going in showed the enemy had a 0% critical chance. My unit attacks, the then the enemy criticals and kills them. Turns out the preview rounds the crit chance up or down, so this was a 0.5% chance or lower.

So tired of news articles that tell about how bad it is for the Trumpstain. As far as I can tell, he is still in power, he's still has billions of dollars he made in the presidency, & he's still alive, so things aren't bad enough for him. People can stop publishing how horrible things are for him.

I wrote a huge chunk in what I hope could be a fantasy series last year. I was excited and often writing thousands of words a day, but I had to set it aside for my dissertation. I’m finished and have a PhD, but, trying to get back to it, that excitement is gone and I don’t know how to recapture it.

The major hang up that’s keeping them from using fully AI generated “original” content are copyright laws. If courts and legislatures determine that AI generated content can be copyrighted, then you can expect to see fully AI written books being published, sold, and adapted into other media. (2/2)

Don’t expect the big 5 publishers not to jump on AI created content. Some are already using AI to create short video adaptations of books, and we’ve all heard how editors and agents are now using AI to read through slush piles, among other things, not to mention cover art. (1/2)

I’ve had my Gmail account for 22-23 years, ever since the early beta days. But, given the company’s obsequiousness to the Cheeto in Chief, I am going to transition to another service, probably Protonmail. I’ll also be migrating away from Google’s other services. No more Apple products either.

When you write a bunch one day and it’s really good, but you realize the day after that it takes the character on a different trajectory that’s not going to work in the broader story, so you have to cut it. Not really a wasted day, but it does sting a little. #writersky #fantasywriting #booktok

I haven’t fully developed the conlang just yet. I have some words, rough noun inflections, and some ideas (though in a fit of hyperfocus I developed a runic writing system a couple of weeks ago). July will be conlang month and then August I’ll start doing developmental edits.

It will be complete in the sense that it will have a fully developed grammar (so parts of speech, inflections, syntax, and etc.), but beyond pronouns, some necessary verbs, and other words relevant to the story, I’ll only be adding words as needed.

The writing is more instinctive. The world I would say is roughly analogous to 12th or 13th century Europe, so there is that influence but the story and characters have modern influences from contemporary fantasy narratives and manga/anime.

I have a PhD in medieval literature, so I’m primarily familiar with medieval era Germanic languages and Latin. So I’m using those and occasionally pulling what little I know of some other languages when I think it’s useful.

I have a phoneme system in place, as well as word structure. Things may change as I keep writing, but I do know the language will lack voiced plosives and unvoiced plosives will be rare. The vowels will be pretty simple, like “a” will always be “ah,” and diphthongs will be limited.

Made a decision today. I want to be a writer. I’ve been working on a story centered around a character named Fay for over a year now, and have had the idea since 2019. I hope that someday in the hopefully not too distant future that you all can meet her. #writersky #booksky

A journal entry dated May 3, 2026. It reads:

I want to be a writer. I want to tell Fay’s story and have it out in the world. I want to tell more stories beyond hers.

There. I said it. I’m hoping this will help keep me motivated to manifest it. I know this is a bit personal for my creative writing journal, but there have been so many times in my life, especially when I was younger, that I let my lack of self-confidence and esteem stop me from taking risks and dreaming big. While it’s true that even if I had done those my life may not have been any different, at least I would have tried.

I’m in my forties. I know I’m starting late. My confidence in my ability to tell Fay’s story is shaky, and what little I have is probably unearned. I’m still anxious, but I am DONE letting it get the better of me. I’m going to write.

This required more than 2 posts. Suddenly I regretted getting rid of my old Star Wars books, now considered Legends. While it’s true most were garbage, there were some I truly loved. So I’ve been slowly rebuilding the collection. Here are the latest two found at my local library’s book sale.

So, I decided to donate all my Star Wars books. I watched the sequels and adored Rey, but didn’t really dive back in, unexpectedly, with the Obi-wan Kenobi series. I joined TikTok around the time it came out and found for the first time a positive Star Wars community and my hyper fixation returned.

In my mid-20s, I thought I was done with Star Wars. The prequel trilogy was finished, The Clone Wars launch was disastrous, and the EU, which I loved was a hot, never ending mess where I made the realization that my favorite characters would never have the happy endings I wanted for them. 1/2.
