You have no respect for excessive authority or obsolete traditions. You're dangerous and depraved, and you ought to be taken outside and shot! (J. Heller Catch 22)

Not doing too much, just listening to David Attenborough explain the electrical fields between flowers and bees. If the planet's finest achievement, its pinnacle, and the meaning of everything was this extraordinary relationship, I would be absolutely fine with that.

A journey around the garden.
A red climbing rose in flower with dark green leaves against a blue sky with a small fluff of cloud lazily drifting by.A flourishing Ceanothus (California Lilac) in full bloom, attracting a great many bees.Solomon's Seal, or what we refer to as the 'hand plant, thriving in the dappled shade.

My wife visited Oban today in beautiful weather. It took me back some years when I spent a week on Mull and visited Iona during a terrific storm. The dramatic scenery may've appeared harsh as it quickly ate into my bones, but when the sun finally appeared it was the most exotic place I've been to.
An almost monochrome picture looking out across the water with a slither of light between it and the grey heavy clouds. The hills of Mull as we winded our way along the roads, saturated, oozing rain.Beautiful carving of entwined plant life, almost resembling a delicate design made in sand, glimpsed before the terrible storms might wash it away. The stone face of a Bishop or a priest or a Saint, perhaps, the nose eroded, the mouth strangely resembling a kiss.

Not too far from where I live, there's a burning bus sat on the bridge that takes people over the river. The bridge has been closed. #elections #localelections #Councilelections

A cobweb man With bearded ears Pulls to him all his years. As old as hills He says to me "I am all my ancestry." A mither of moths With finger crooks Waving at unopened books. A man unmade Just like his bed Too tired to sink his silver head. Poem and picture by J. Buck
One of York's Ghosts in the Gardens sculptures. Created in partnership with York-based Unconventional Design. This is a translucent wire-mesh male figure riding a penny farthing.

My wife took this picture at the entrance of one of our public lavatories (fraught with danger, I know). It caused much hilarity at the time. I now see it more as a political cartoon, a perfect illustration of what our choices are, and a cautionary tale for a certain so-called world leader. #Iran
A public lavatory sign that shows a sitting figure on the toilet with a thumbs up, and next to it a figure bent over and exploding from the rear, a thumbs down above it.

I am preparing for the day as if I were an Argonaut.
A kitchen work-surface with a jar of homemade June tea containing pineapple mint, nettle, blackberry leaf, elderflower. Sat beside it is a black pot, inside the brew stirs into life.

For I am every dead thing, In whom love wrought new alchemy. A Nocturnal upon St. Lucy's Day John Donne
On the path above the Mallyan Spout, North Yorkshire moors. The sun low in the sky is just visible behind dark grey clouds tangled in the silhouettes of naked trees, a hedge, a farmer's gate. There is a blue sky nonetheless, though the day was cold down near the spout.

I have a wizened plum tree in my back garden. Usually we have pigeons, tits and finches flock to its gnarled branches. This morning there's a magpie sat there, barely visible, & I just realised its colouring lends itself to sitting in a tree that's shed its leaves with the white cloud as a backdrop.
A wizened plum tree in a winter garden. It's leaves no more. An invisible magpie is sat on a gnarled branch, with white clouds as a backdrop. Perfectly camouflaged.

I'm going down to the beach There's someone there I need to meet He's a lonely figure A shoe that causes blisters A stone that leaves blood on your feet.
A monochrome photographic image looking out into the estuary of a wide river. The sand path narrows between weather worn fences bowed like pale old teeth, like the jaws of a marooned sea monster now mostly hidden by time, sand and the coarse grasses. The ground rises each side of the fences, and the sand path eventually opens out to the mudflats. There, in the distance, an old fort stands in the calm receding tide, its purpose long forgotten by most who visit here.

The Cornfield, Constable, 1826. When I was a small boy my grandparents had a print of this hanging in their hallway in a golden frame. I used to stare up at it in the gloom, mesmerised by the boy quenching his thirst, his impatient dog and the dark foreboding woodland. I was there, inside it.
A lane leading from East Bergholt toward Dedham, Essex, depicts a young shepherd boy drinking from a pool as the summer heat rises, clouds mull overhead and the dark trees loom above Fen Lane. The boy's dog waits impatiently, wanting to get on and chase the sheep into the cornfield beyond the cutting. There is a gate there into the golden cornfield.

Sculpture by Peter Randall-Page at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall.
A black & white photograph by Jim Buck of a stone sculpture by Peter Randall-Page, displayed at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall. There are two forms meeting one another. One could be female, a smooth round sinking depth, a place to go, somewhere to look inside or place one's hand; the other could be male, a key, a corresponding part of a whole, reaching up, waiting to join the other half of itself.

James Turrell's Tewlwolow Kernow
A photograph by Jim Buck of the skyscape by artist James Turrell. It is a curved room you enter at a single opening with simple seating around the curved walls. You sit and look up at a cutaway in the ceiling and there you watch the sky change, clouds come and go, the picture is never the same. It's dreamlike, like meditation, it's whatever you wish to conjure.

It has often been said that life goes round in a circle. What was once fought for and won needs to be fought for again as if no previous battle had ever been raged. Know this, the long comfortable and content amongst us, there is an irreversible need for hands to get dirty and boots to be planted.

Giuseppe Tirelli 'La Miciona Supereroe Locale'
A bronze seated female figure, legs crossed and looking to her right. She is wearing a tight purple helmet with the tiniest cat ears protruding on top. A purple shawl or cape is falling from her shoulders and her green flesh is proudly exposed. She is barefooted and looks relaxed. A painting of a torn dying branch and several, what looks to be, onions hangs on the wall behind her.

'She climbed into the branches, clad only in her shift, and was cutting off small twigs with a peculiarly curved knife, and as she did so she seemed to be talking to herself.' M R James

We chased trees And filled the moon We made night Last all afternoon We danced with bridges Upon the Thames We gathered up London And sent it to friends We chased trees Through the houses We emptied Parliament Into our trousers We jumped the towers And set a trend We chased trees Until the end.
A photograph of a woodland. A tree is in the foreground, other smaller ones behind it. Light is able to filter through. Each tree has painted white branches fixed to their trunks, like ghosts

I hope @bsky.app isn't somewhere where people come to suck up all the oxygen, a place to find an audience and demand all the attention. I hope it's a place where you come to listen and get inspired by the small things, the everyday. This isn't a market.
