You missed the point of ‘anti-Semitic’.

Read Lucas’s speech again. Zionism was born as a political movement specifically opposed to racism. It’s wrong to condemn Zionism for acts committed by Netanyahu’s government. Put it this way: does passing this motion mean we should condemn the entire Green political movement as anti-Semitic?

No. I’m British, and opposed the apartheid regime before it was ended. I oppose the emerging white supremacist authoritarian regime in the US. But this is not the same.

The absence of a subtitle should tell you that this is just a mock-up. I’m confident that the final cover artwork will have the correct name. 😎

I’m not aware of any wartime attempt to build a reactor at the V&A. Following the fall of France, physicists Hans von Halban and Lew Kowarski escaped to Britain with a quantity of heavy water (see jimbaggott.substack.com/p/the-indefi...). They joined Britain’s ‘Tube Alloys’ project …

Can I give an early shout out to my next book ‘The Two Lives of Schrodinger’s Cat’ to be published next year by Yale University Press? In Chapter 3, I explore how Le Guin’s 1974 essay ‘Schrodinger’s Cat’ helped to introduce this imaginative ‘thought experiment’ into popular culture.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Really? When tasked to do my own audiobook last year, I decided that the book would be unspeakable (!) so I decided to remove all the equations and references to figures and tables. This turned out to be not so difficult and yes, made me wonder why I hadn’t written it like that in the first place.

I think our generation simply wasn’t paying close enough attention. What we’re seeing now has been coming at least since the Reagan administration, turned up to 11 by a global financial crisis and a pandemic. The key question is how much damage will be done before it’s all over. 😩
