My mom owned a tack store in the '80s and this poster hung on the oustide of the changing room door. I wish I'd kept it when the store closed.
Nocona Boots poster showing a dude in cowboy boots stepping on the neck of a rattlenake. The snake has its body wrapped around the boot. The dude has a big knife and I reckon he aims to remove that snake's head with it.

This is a geniune question, even if wrapped in criticism: How does this Amazon pricing for OPERATION BOUNCE HOUSE compute? The Kindle costs half the cost of the hardcover? And the paperback costs *more* than the hardcover? @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social or anyone please make this make sense.

How does this pricing make any sense? Who would spend this on the Kindle edition in comparison to the giant hardcover? Are publishers thinking things through?
Amazon screenshot showing a book is $21.99 for the Kindle edition (ludicrous), and $28.80 for the Hardcover.

The cover to the book NOTHING LASTS FOREVER by Roderick Thorp. Big skyscraper, some terrorist, a hero... where have I heard this story before?

What movie did you see way too young?
The Tall Man from the movie PHANTASM giving the camera a "I've got something for your ass" look while a brain-sucking chrome death ball hovers over his open hand. This movie messed me up when I was a kid, but I loved it.

I've only read one Discworld novel so far (Guards! Guards!) and I want to read this one next, but according to the "reading order" is comes after Mort, Reaper Man, and Soul Music. Or can I jump right into Hogfather without reading those first?
The Discworld Reading Order Guide 3.0, which has all the Discworld novels listed and the suggested reading order. I can't fit all of it into the alt text but you can check out https://discworld.com/discworld-reading-order/ for the list. Or not, I'm not the boss of you

Introduce yourself with four comic covers
The cover of GENIUS J’S TECHNICOLOUR ALMANACK OF GRAPHICAL WONDERMENT, illustrated by Dave Wachter. All the stories in it were written by me. There’s a lot going on here on the cover: Dracula looks down on a skeleton warrior, Creature from the Black Lagoon is reaching for you because you’ve got something in your face and he’s just trying to help, there’s a teddy bear, and a dude smoking, and some soldiers, and cowboys robbing a train. Shit’s absolutely bonkers. The cover of GENIUS J’S SECOND QUASI-DECENNIAL ALMANACK OF GRAPHICAL WONDERMENT, illustrated by Dave Wachter. All the stories in it were written by me. There’s a bunch of characters on the cover who appear in stories in the book. The cover of WILLIAM THE SOULLESS #0. The cover was drawn by Kelly Williams and the story inside was written by me. Here we see a medieval knight (a hospitalier to be exact) fighting a bunch of zombies. I called this issue #0 because it’s supposed to be a prequel to a bunch of other adventures with this guy but I haven’t written them yet. The cover of TAOTAOMONA #1. It was drawn by Sonny Chargualaf who co-wrote the story with me. Here we see a girl walking through a jungle while a ghost looks on.

It was this cover to #422 specifically that caught my eye and made me start reading comics again. Why does Batman have a knife? Did he just shank someone? I had to know. I read it and was hooked. This storyline lead into "A Death in the Family" which came 4 issues later.

Season 1 of Lioness was good, but season 2 is incredible. I think this is probably Taylor Sheridan’s best work in this genre since Sicario.
A promotional image for the show Special Ops: Lioness. Zoe Saldana has a gun. Laysla de Oliviera has a gun. Other actors’s heads float above them. Everyone is looking in completely different directions like they don’t know what’s what

I hate the modern cover so much that I cleaned up the original paperback cover image just for funsies.
The og cover for DEATH ANGEL'S SHADOW. Here we see the hero Kane, wearing his Thor helmet and a shield and boots and not much else, fighting a monster that looks like a cross between a gorilla and a bear and a mother-in-law. The text reads: "DEATH ANGEL'S SHADOW, KARL EDWARD WAGNER, From the werewolf's lair... to the vampire's nest... Kane wields his bloody sword"

Introduce yourself with four video games:
The box cover for the game POOL OF RADIANCE for the Commodore 64. On the cover is this barbarian fighter guy with long, blow-dried hair and the most fancy yet useless armor imaginable. Behind him is a malnourished dragon breathing fire over his shoulder. Fabio the barbarian is looking back at him with annoyance, like the dragon has stinky breath or something. Anyway, I played this game and all its sequels when I was in college. I loved this game so much that I'd play it all night and then at some point I'd be like, "hey where is that light coming from? oh yeah, it's the sun coming up. guess I'm not going to class today!"The logo for the game INSCRYPTION, showing some of the cards and bone chips against a very pastel purple game board. The red glowing eyes of the Leshy are in the distance as he looks on impatiently. This is the best damn card game I've ever played and it got even better once I figured out how to cheat by altering the saved game files. A screen capture from the game KARATEKA. The bad guy samurai has his orange samurai dress on and he's wearing a blue eagle on his shoulder, as one does. In front of him is a blonde lady looking down sadly, or maybe she's admiring the striped carpet, I dunno. Across the room is a karate guy wearing a chamber pot on his head, it looks like it has viking horns or Thor wings or something on it. Samurai bad guy is pointing at the door, commanding the lady to GTFO. Anyway, I played this game a lot in junior high school on an Apple ][e because I was a nerd. At the time I thought it was the greatest video game ever invented even though it was pretty difficult in the end levels.Cover image for RED DEAD REDEMPTION II. A burly cowboy dude wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy bandoliers points his cowboy pistol at you/me, the viewer. This is superimposed above a posse of cowboys riding horses into the sunset, except they're heading this way so I guess they're riding away from the sunset, unless we as the viewer happen to have the sun behind us. Anyway, this game is incredible and the world building is amazing and you can rob and shoot and kill hunt and cause mayhem and destruction but it's ok and not at all psychotic to randomly shoot people in the game because it's just a game so get off my back about it already ma

Look, I'm not even joking about this, I had to walk uphill both ways (because of a series of hills at each of those turns) in the snow to get to my bus stop. This was the actual route and it was hell in the winter.
This is a Google Maps screenshot of the route I had to take from the top of a damn mountain in Washington where I lived to my bus stop 1.4 miles away. You'd think it's not a long way, but there are hills that go up and then back down at the turns, of which there are several. The landscape looks nice and green in this satellite picture but I assure you it was photographed in the 15 minutes of good weather they called "Summer" in this godforsaken outback. The rest of the year it's either pissing raining or it's snowing like a scene out of Dr. Zhivago.

Jim Andrew Clark @jimandrewclark.com · 10/11/2024
It's true.
So here's a LOTR meme that takes place during that scene in Fellowship of the Ring where they're walking endlessly to get to somewhere (oh wait, that's EVERY DAMN SCENE) and in it we see Aragorn shouting "WHERE ARE WE, GANDALF!?" in the middle of a hellish snowstorm, and in the next part of the image is Gandalf shouting back, "THIS IS THE ROUTE OUR PARENTS TOOK TO SCHOOL!" and of course none of them are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Happy Trash Panda Day
Here we have a couple pictures of some lovely trash pandas with the caption explaining "Every year on October 1st, International Raccoon Appreciation Day encourages people to learn more about raccoons and show appreciation for them. The day also encourages people to protect the raccoon's natural habitat." Let's all take a moment to thank whatever gods exist that created these adorably fuzzy cat things and gave them fingers with which to wreak havoc upon mankind

The Beatles look over the railing from within the EMI building in London. It's their photo from the cover of the "blue album". But what are they looking at? Below them is the shocked face of terrorist Hans Gruber as he plummets to his death, having been cast off the ledge by the Fab Four.
