@aptshadow.bsky.social Just finished Shroud, for me it's a perfect novel. My gold standard for sci fi is Octavia Butler and this is as good. The dark humour is wonderful, and you must have spent ages putting the complex world of Shroud together so believably.

The anti-AI lefties on here make me want to scream because they don't understand it and so they are nit picking and unaware of the impact it will have. They're not anti- enough but they are not pro- enough either. AI now let alone in 3 years time is contributing to fundamental science research.

* People were already losing it under the pressure of climate change and the sociopathology of the internet. AI will 10x this. Existing institutions and social structures will collapse under the rate of change.

jim-ej.bsky.social @jim-ej.bsky.social · 25/06/2026
* Things will increasingly become K shaped - people who can work with AI to benefit, but this will require extreme mental adaptability and risk of burnout, and people who can't, who will get dumped on the rubbish heap.

* The simple rate of change will cause human beings increasing problems in terms of adapting psychologically. Employment, education, advances in science, other areas of tech, robotics, health, all will start to change very rapidly.
110
jim-ej.bsky.social @jim-ej.bsky.social · 25/06/2026
* A whole slew of activities, military, marketing, any kind of strategy, cybersecurity, etc. will come down to adversarial competitions between AIs, and whoever has the better one will win (generally the one with the most money).

The economic problem with AI and robotics is very simple. As companies need fewer and fewer employees, the income in the economy will be directed more and more to company owners. Ordinary people will not be able to survive and the demand in the economy will drastically shrink. I see no solution../

GPT 5.2 and Opus 4.5 are in my experience at the level of a mid range dev right now although you do have to know how to set them up to succeed. We've gone through about 3 step changes in LLM coding ability just this year. I think the argument that they're a couple of notches beneath good enough ../

This is why everyone on the left and right hates this Labour govt. The right don't care about this stuff and would rather vote for proper xenophobes, while this turns the stomach of the left

Next thing to happen in the process of Trumpism will be some kind of armed standoff between could be ICE and local law enforcement or police sent to arrest government officials for contempt of court. The reaction will be a whole new level of attempted tyranny

Transitioning obviously does exist, biological sex consists of chromosomes, hormones and sex organs, only the first of which cannot be changed, people with gender dysphoria do not have delusions about their biological sex. So why are you making these nonsense statements?

Any human being communicating in a verbal language is solving exactly the same problem. At this point claiming LLMs don't reason is a kind of biological chauvinism. I can show an LLM a news article from after it's training date cutoff and it will correctly infer roughly when the article was from.

Classic playbook taken to the extreme. Representatives of corporate interest get into power, smash up the state, say it doesn't work, privatise everything, now their friends can make profits off a taxpayer with no choice of who they're buying from

#AI #LLMs #CursorAI When you find AI isn't fixing a code bug, the danger of continuing to try and get it to solve the same bug is that it will hallucinate bad reworkings of the code. Often the issue is you didn't give it enough context, e.g. the code calling your code etc

JD Vance insisting the rest of the world will be takers of US AI tech shows technical naivety when their LLMs are only leading by about 10% the best open source ones. US cloud dominance is much more of a problem

The real failure of the centrist left is to shrink the Overton window so that there really is no alternative to neoliberalism thus failing to fix the increasing sense of we have to break the system because it isn't working felt by the alt left and right. They're too scared to stop the transfer ../

I tend to write a simple repository pattern over any data source that provides maybe a few generic calls like get a record by id, plus a call for any specific query. It's very straightforward, and gets you most of the advantages any more complex abstraction would give you.
