My main problem with the proposed Trump #ballroom is its size. Seems way out of scale with the WH itself. Does anyone know how big a ballroom is really needed for state purposes? Buildings on this 90k sq ft scale are convention centers. Maybe DJT wants to hold the Republican convention in it.

I always want to remind people (especially Rs) that Medicaid is not giving money to poor people. It’s paying hospitals, docs, etc who provide health care (which they’re required to do) to these people. If you don’t pay care providers, guess where costs get shifted to?

Keep in mind that #Medicaid is not a pay-out to poor or low-income persons. It makes payment health care providers who treat these folks. If we don’t do, these folks will get sick(er), miss work, etc. And the costs they put the system in uncompensated care will push up insurance rates.

One of the features of our taxing structure is that income taxes on wages and salaries are withheld from paychecks by employers and that’s required by law. So our workers’ taxes get taken no matter what. We can’t opt out. I don’t think such a scheme applies to the masters of corporations.

Medicaid (traditional) is not beloved in many statehouses because it can be a budget buster, covering low-income moms and kids (not expensive) and indigent elderly in nursing homes (very expensive). It’s a place where cheap states cut the budget. 🧵4

Between Medicare and Medicaid (one for the elderly and one for the poor), there are significant gaps in coverage for many, especially if a state has refused Medicaid expansion, and/or a state sets stiff qualification standards for traditional coverage, then short changes the care people. 🧵3

Medicaid is paid for partly by the feds, partly state govt. States set reimbursement rates to care providers, often setting them low. Care providers often limit no. of patients they will take. Low income elderly with no assets can get Medicaid for nursing home care, which is expensive for states. 🧵1

-Elders should have a 💯% coverage option for Medicare, so you could get gap & drug coverage for a small premium based on non SocSec income. -Medicaid is a shared Fed/state payment scheme; states often short change on the payments, since costs are a state budget buster. -Best: 💯% Medicare for all.

1. And some of the states that have NOT adopted Medicaid expansion have the strictest antiabortion laws. Which means even women who want to KEEP their babies may not get critical pre and postnatal care. 2. Private insurance is the biggest cost imposer, denying care to ensure profits.
