"Imagine we put the right stick in the middle of the screen like this..." Here's a visual guide to how Fortnite's "tweak zone" gives players more control over their aim (even with old controllers that normally need a large dead zone) 🎮🎯

Gyro Offset and Tweak Zone look similar at a glance but solve different problems: • Tweak Zone addresses the stiffness caused by sticks needing a Dead Zone; • Gyro Offset addresses the camera shakines caused by the frictionlessness of gyro aiming.

It takes practice to be more aware of the crosshair at all times with Gyro Offset, especially in chaotic situations, instead of relying on screen center. But I found sniping and long-range precision pretty easy to pick up.

If you want to compare more directly with COD, Gyro Offset also works in first person experiences and brings a cool flavour there IMHO. (Some weapons still have some visual issues to work out with the offset, but we're getting there)

Beyond that area your aim will turn the camera as usual by default. Experienced gyro players and flick stick players can use it without trouble. (There's also an option to have the extra gyro aim ignored for stick-aimers who want to limit gyro aim to small adjustments)

Fortnite's "Gyro Offset" settings let you move your aim freely within a configurable area of the screen. The crosshair moves to show you where you're aiming at all times. It reduces camera movement and can help you focus on your target:

This takes away all the stiffness of aiming around a deadzone, and it works well no matter how large a deadzone you need for your controller, because an offset crosshair won't spin your camera endlessly if it's not-quite-centred. Let me know what you think! 🎮🎯
Find your tweak zone settings in the game's Controller settings tab just below your deadzone settings.

Gyro Discord has been enjoying some tweaks to the gyro settings in Fortnite 🎮🎯 The big one on PS5 and Windows is Calibration, letting players disable motion sensor recalibrations during regular gameplay so they didn't get in the way of small aiming adjustments:

The Surgefire SMG is so much fun to shoot with! Its spread *tightens* during sustained fire, making it unusually good for finding obscured opponents and then laying on the damage. I don't do any weapon design, but I did improve our spread system a while back with something like this in mind

A little improvement to the gyro settings in Fortnite: players using a PlayStation controller can now set "touchpad touch" as a way to disable or enable gyro aim

Human-like aim assist is live in Fortnite! This was my baby, so I'm super excited about it! For most players this will be a very subtle change, but there's a lot of questions about "is it better? is it worse? what is it?" so I thought I'd flesh it out a bit. 🧵 www.fortnite.com/news/fortnit...
From the Fortnite 31.20 blog:
On all platforms, v31.20 introduces human-like aim assist for controller players, which models human reaction time while trying to better match how unassisted keyboard + mouse players track moving targets. Human-like aim assist allows for more balanced tuning for controller players of all skill levels -- we'll be closely monitoring its impact so that we can tune it just right!

Hey #gamedev! I'm best known for my work in gyro aiming. It's tough to push back against a negative stigma from the old days of poor tech and poorer standards. But I've established precise, responsive, mouse-like standards used in Steam, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and much more!
