We oppose the label #ProfoundAutism not because we deny high support autistics exist—our own sons require 1:1 care—but because those behind the category flog dodgy criteria like IQ & self-harm—without understanding why those measures are flawed for autistics. thinkingautismguide.com/2025/04/crea...

A "Profound Autism" Category Is Segregation—Not Progress
RFK Jr. went full "useless eaters" on autistics—& Profound Autism parents are thrilled. Here's why "profound autism" is harmful, not helpful.

Did you know that most self-identifying autistic adults actually want a diagnosis? Diagnosis barriers(financial, waitlists, outdated criteria, diagnosis deserts) are the real issue. Yet another reason why scoffing at self-diagnosed autistic is an a**hole move. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

I'm fairly used to transcription software mangling Section 504 or IDEA, but today's erroneous transcription of the "child-find" requirement as the child *finance* requirement is a gem. Can't start investing too early! (Unless you receive disability benefits, and the government caps your savings...)

Curious about how autism intervention researchers define and measure "problem behavior"? We examined 102 intervention studies with young autistic children and found that only 1/3 of studies give a reason for targeting the behavior they aim to reduce, 1/4 acamh.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

This. It shouldn't be a guest lecture or a one-off training session or a project; universities need to be resourcing and investing in Neurodiversity Studies, and neurodivergent inclusion, for the long term.
