You'd never guess, but I have done a bit of gardening

The view from above my house, looking towards Strumble Head, about 7 or 8km distant. It's just plants - pink flowers in the foreground, the branches of a blackthorn above. Beyond that is a hawthorn in blossom, an ash now in full leaf. We're quite high, and the ground is falling away so we're looking square at the tree canopy. Past the ash area sycamore and more ash, and in the far distance the fields above Goodwick.

It's overcast and cool, but bright.

There's a cuckoo away off to my left, and somewhere in front is a blackbird. Behind and above is a chiffchaff, and I've just heard a pheasant croaking away to my right. I've not seen a robin, which is unusual, but there's one below on the left squicking about.

Natalie's away for the weekend, but I am voluntarily in the veg garden and, you know what, it's alright

Looking diagonally across our vegetable garden. Most of the beds need a bit of attention - the chard and turnips that over wintered have gone crazy. The dogs are nurking about near a compost bin on the far edge. Beyond that to the right is our polytunnel, while straight ahead is a blackthorn thicket. To the left, you can just see the house beyond the trees. It is sunny as hell

Out the front, looking for bats again. Nothing so far, but there's a couple of owls skreetch and skrotching up the lane.

Looking south, along the house, I can see the silhouette of a rage lopsided Scots pine. It must have been crowded out by its neighbour, another pine we've had to have some pretty radical work done on.

Looking North of West, thriving the tangles of four large ash trees. They're always the lady to come into leaf, and these are just starting to show on their very fringes

To the North, a decent sized sycamore. It's got plenty of new leaf - it gets a lot of sun - but you can still the branches against the sky

I'm sitting outside waiting to see if I can any bats. A couple of nights ago, there were one or two out on the other side of the house, but this evening I'm trying to see if they're using the roost we put when we rebuilt the roof.
