Ezra Klein’s podcast today gave me a new phrase: we’re in an attention oligopoly. Where the currency of power isn’t money, it’s attention. Makes me even more concerned with where and how I spend my attention these days.

I was at McKinsey when something similar happened. Anyone else remember Ranjit’s laptop? Of course, within a day, some analyst put together a deck about the wasted money by analyzing the response rate and response time. It was glorious.

There's always three costs of a product or course - The (financial) cost to acquire said product - The (time and attention) cost to implement the product/course - The (time and money) cost to maintain the change Black Friday minimizes the first cost. But can you afford to pay the second and third?
