Jess Calarco @jessicacalarco.com · 10hMy 12-year-old was lamenting yesterday that "crush" culture is consuming her classmates. She told me she doesn't do crushes yet, because, in her words, "I think I need to figure out who I am before I think about anything like that." And man, I wish I had that kind of self-awareness at her age. 73607

If a single municipal level Democrat ever did, it would be a national outrage &spark a wave of “civility” discourse, & op-eds about how Dems must Respect Real Folkz & talk across difference. Jess Calarco @jessicacalarco.com · 03/10/2026Now, I'm proud of 9 for improving. And grateful we had the time and knowledge to figure out what 9 was supposed to be doing, and to help 9 navigate the app and practice at home. But it's also hard to know that not every family whose kid would benefit from such help is equally able to help this way. 1540
Jess Calarco @jessicacalarco.com · 03/10/2026But 9 insisted that practicing at home was "cheating." Well, we checked with the teacher and learned that actually, 9 was supposed to be practicing with an app at home. So, we started practicing, and not just doing the app once, as required, but multiple times. And this week, 9 got 13/13 right. 3620
Jess Calarco @jessicacalarco.com · 03/10/2026And one of the things 9 struggles with is spelling. But we didn't realize 9's class was taking spelling tests until a few weeks into the school year. At which point we learned that 9 was scoring ~5/13, despite working on the words all week at school. So, we suggested practicing more at home... 1240
