Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 15hI may try this! About a third of the tree, the quinces are still greenish so I'm leaving them on for a while yet. I got a big sack of them yesterday from the tree, made 4 pints of quince preserves with enough to do probably 8 more pints! 010
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 16hSubie is still for sale. Have someone coming to look tomorrow, but if this is a good fit for you or someone you know, get at me! 060
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 16hI canned quinces from my own tree They're so pink and smell pretty! (I'm actually really proud, only took 10 years to figure out it was quince and not Terrible Pear and then what to do with them, again, some sort of metaphor for life) 1100
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Our son was getting a haircut today, so @royalpdx.bsky.social was herding him into the shower. "Mama, you come shower, too?" "No, baby, there isn't enough room." He looked befuddled. "I need a bigger bath, what the HECK!" 060
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It's been such a perfect compact size with enough room inside to haul around the necessary. 000
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 05/10/2026My brain read something as "nonbinary oatmeal flavors" and it took me a solid couple seconds. NonDAIRY. NonDAIRY. 1120
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026So any offers you've got for Subie Doo, hit me up. I'm going to an old abandoned K-Mart to find new pants for my noodle-legged son. (It's a kids' consignment sale, but it's fun to say THE OOOOOLD ABANDONED K-MART #Subaru #SubieDoo 060
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Lots more pictures available. Car is in SE PDX. If you are interested: I'm listing it on sites for $2500, but if you're here following me, I'd love to negotiate a price that gets it home with you and helps us with our emergency dishwasher replacement. 140
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It gets about 20-25 mpg, which is as it was designed, gas is just expensive, which is why I just bought a used EV. That's about it. It was the perfect car for when I was in grad school, to haul around my keyboard and PDXBs gear, and safe enough to protect my young son, but it's time. 140
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026A few quirks: - It's a 22 year old car. It's got a little cosmetic wear, but I'm talking some small scratches, no major dents. Upholstery is in excellent shape, no stains or tears. - Heat is fine, but A/C is not. - The struts will need to be replaced probably within the next year. 130
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026- So roomy: fold down seats, great clean cargo area. Roll out cargo cover and rubber cargo tray added aftermarket which go for $150 on their own. - Freshly washed and vacuumed. - Sound is great with CD player and aux for phone/media, I've got an aux cord for you to hook into if you want. 130
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026- Tires are solid, bought from Les Schwab. - Battery is brand new, bought a month ago, 3 year warranty at AutoZone, still have the receipt. - Oil recently changed, fluids checked and all good to go. - Just passed DEQ this spring, no warnings, errors, or problems. 130
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026PROS: many. - Running great. - If you know Subarus, you know that headgaskets are a problem around 200K. Good news: I had the headgaskets fixed at 202K. You are now golden. - Radiator was replaced about 2 years ago, alternator and timing belt about 6 years ago because a squirrel got squirrely. 130
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Subie is a 2004 Subaru Forester XS with 223K miles. Bought in 2016 with 176K miles. Clean title, no accidents before or since. Passed DEQ again this spring. Is currently running just fine, I ran errands around town in it yesterday with Huddy and took it for a nice wash and vacuum. Behold his nap. 140
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The time has come to sell Subie Doo, my 2004 Subaru Forester XS. Bought in 2016 while I was in grad school, it has been an excellent car to get around the PNW for school, work, band stuff, and safely hauling my young son. We recently purchased a (Subaru!) EV, so are you Subie's next home? 4171
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026After watching the F1 race, Royal turned on Moonshiners. Huddy, quietly cuddling in my lap while I write up about the car, pipes up. "The corn is going to be liquored!" Between the car racing and moonshine, we are preparing him for a life as a Florida Man. 2120

Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Seriously, it's been a workhorse. 223K, did headgaskets at 202K, so it'll keep kicking for a while yet. :D 040
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 04/10/2026If you're looking for a good get around the PNW car, I've got a 2004 Subaru Forester that I'll be listing up for sale tomorrow. Good running condition, just finally made the jump to an EV. More info tomorrow, DM if interested! 2176
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 03/10/2026My 4 year old just surprised us. Watching something with two men in black on an ordinary looking brown boat, he said, "They're on a police boat." We said, "How did you know?" and he said, "The word on the side." The movie was set in Italy and the boat said "Polizia." Good recognition, kid. 0150

Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 29/09/2026What's her style like (does she like skirts and prints, more casual, etc.) and what size? Like, even knowing S or XXL would produce some different suggestions! @svahausa.bsky.social is size-inclusive and lots of options, so they're my go to! 210
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Oh no, no, it's not her brand, it's what the artist buys and wears. The fans have found out and gone out to coat themselves in it. 230
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 29/09/2026They just did a spinoff trivia game starting today which I didn't realize. The word find game is fun, that's what I've been playing. Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The aforementioned Panda Cage. I think this was...2012? @davethegreat.bsky.social and I had some very good lab times. 030
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The panda cage was the enormous wooden crate that someone got an ultrasound machine delivered in, then the crate got shoved in my lab. We stuck everyone in there when they couldn't behave and it became known as the Panda Cage after a girl nicknamed Panda who often needed a time out. 190
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 25/09/2026However, word somehow got around that we had one, and occasionally it would come up in the Grand Wandering Admin Review Tours. "I heard you have unusual equipment." "Yes, I have metabolic cages and telemeters..." "What about the mouseapult and the panda cage?" It has entered legend. 170
Dr. Jess Hebert @jesshebert.bsky.social · 25/09/2026We kept it next to the mice we were trying to induce stress responses in, and I think maybe it helped. Or maybe it was just the proximity of @davethegreat.bsky.social. One can never tell, really. Dave went back to saving kittens from trees or whatever, and eventually I dismantled the mouseapult. 280
