Looking into #bus deregulation today... Fun fact: Many of the bus companies started when WWI soldiers returned (the learnt engineering and driving). There were so many that they ate into rail profit leading to the creation of the big 4 railway companies!

New @natclimate.nature.com study on climate belief systems worldwide: ⁉️Middle East & North Africa shows more inconsistent beliefs, due(?) to economic interests 📨Societies with more information exposure → tighter climate belief networks 🚫Interconnected beliefs corr. with anti-climate stances
"solid edges represent positive correlations, while dashed edges represent negative correlations. Edge thickness reflects the strength of the partial correlation, with thicker lines indicating stronger associations."

It's rather hot in Europe 🥵 atm! #Climate communicators should keep in mind these 10 guidelines (from Climate Ressillience for All) & 7 core principles (from @climatevisuals.bsky.social )to communicate these #heatwaves with the severity they deserve.
A graphic titled "10 Guidelines for Effective Extreme Heat Visuals: How to portray extreme heat as a serious threat." The image includes a list of 10 numbered guidelines in alternating yellow and red boxes, alongside a greyscale photo of a person pouring water over their head to cool off. The 10 guidelines are:

Avoid visuals that downplay the danger. (Extreme heat is the deadliest climate event.)

Beyond a weather story. (Show how heat impacts health, transportation, and work.)

Creating heat visuals is challenging. (Focus on those most affected, such as female outdoor workers.)

Portray impacts for average people. (Capture everyday impacts of extreme heat.)

Show both the impacts and solutions. (Combine images of heat with visuals of cooling solutions.)

Tailor heat visuals to your audience. (By highlighting their specific challenges and potential solutions.)

Rethink when to shoot. (Heat is a 24-hour story.)

Build sources and plan ahead. (To secure access to key information when a heatwave hits.)

Stay safe while working in extreme heat. (Take breaks, hydrate, wear cool clothing, and monitor your well-being.)

Think about your equipment. (Protect your equipment from the blazing sun.)

The visual uses warm colours to reflect the theme and emphasise urgency.A graphic titled “7 core principles for climate change communication” from Climate Visuals. The layout features seven principles accompanied by simple turquoise line icons. The principles are:

Show real people (icon of a person outline).

Tell new stories (icon of an open book).

Show climate change causes at scale (icon of factories and trees).

Show emotionally powerful impacts (icon of two people comforting each other).

Understand your audience (icon of a group of people).

Show local (but serious) impacts (icon of a map with a location pin).

Be careful with protest imagery (icon of a person pointing at a chart).

The graphic is clean and minimalist, using soft tones and icons to visually reinforce each principle.

Multiple representations can triangulate understanding and build a more complete mental model of #sustainability... Today is the UK’s #Earth #OvershootDay. If everyone lived like the UK, our consumption would exceed the planet's capacity today 👣>🌍 Source: Global Footprint Network 2025
Infographic titled "Country Overshoot Days 2025: When Earth Overshoot Day would land if all the people around the world lived like..." It features a circular calendar showing the globe at the centre, surrounded by a timeline of dates extending from January to December. Each date is paired with one or more countries, indicating when their individual Earth Overshoot Day would occur if the global population lived like that country.

For example:

Qatar’s Overshoot Day is 6 February (earliest).

The UK’s is 20 May.

The global average is not shown, but the latest dates include countries like Indonesia (18 November) and Uruguay (17 December).

The infographic shows that high-consumption countries (e.g. the US, Luxembourg, UAE) reach overshoot much earlier in the year.

Finally, Rob Moore (Co-Founder of Behaviour Change) inadvertently described my mood for the week...
A ginger cat is swimming in murky brown water, looking displeased and uncomfortable. Superimposed white text reads:
"Humans are to thinking as cats are to swimming.
We can do it when we have to – but we’d much prefer not to."

The image humorously compares the reluctance of cats to swim with the idea that humans often avoid deep thinking unless necessary.

A very pleasant surprise to see my impact assessment in @pledgeball.bsky.social 's talk today! I love seeing evidence-based practice ⚽
Slide from a presentation by Katie Cross (Pledgeball) highlighting academic research supporting Pledgeball’s impact. It cites studies from 2021, 2023, and 2024 showing that Pledgeball engagement leads fans to re-evaluate their climate role, change consumption habits, talk more about climate change, and feel greater agency and efficacy. A screenshot of an academic article titled "I Hadn’t Realised That Change Is Not a Difficult Thing" is also visible.

Really pleased to see the #accessibility work going on at #Bristol Temple Meads - Station Innovation Zone. They've just selected two 'innovators' for a 6-month trial. Journey Alerts seems like it could have a serious 'curb cut effect' and a service like Ampetronic seems long overdue 😍
