Chesney was my recruiting contact at Johns Hopkins when he was DC there and he very clearly Had It even then—we had a 2-minute conversation at a football camp that dramatically improved my tackling ability senior year of high school

Omega Protein is a convenient boogie man (huge corporation, monopoly, turns fish into industrial commodities) but is actually way better than the bait fishery—super easy to manage

I did my undergrad thesis on menhaden after reading the H Bruce Franklin book and after researching it in-depth basically came to the conclusion that Omega Protein is not the problem. Striped bass rebound and loss of spawning habitat have much bigger influence

I have found that one thing LLMs are good at is making RShiny apps from existing R code. Could be useful for teaching—haven’t yet really thought about that application

Packers have the best dropback EPA/play in the league on defense on 1st/2nd down and worst on 3rd/4th down. Is that scheme, personnel, or luck?

Not just this year—his calling card is his speed and explosion, and this is the injury that affects those the most. Hope this doesn’t take away his best trait over the long term

On the one hand, I think it’s pretty reasonable to not play when you couldn’t throw 10 yards five years ago. On the other hand, it would have been extremely funny to unretire while people are literally in the process of deciding whether you should be in the Hall of Fame

Two biggest things I got from new Oil Ground Up were (1) Wright/Bessent numbers are usually slightly exaggerated but close to true and (2) commercial ship tracking numbers are pretty good after 3-4 days. (2) suggests we’ll know if (1) holds true soon
