How to Live on Twenty-Four Hours a Day by Arnold Bennett (free to read) is absolutely cracking me up www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/2...
So let us begin to examine the budget of the day's time. You say your day is already full to overflowing. How? You actually spend in earning your livelihood—how much? Seven hours, on the average? And in actual sleep, seven? I will add two hours, and be generous. And I will defy you to account to me on the spur of the moment for the other eight hours.

I am slowly learning how to build my own multi-modal transit algorithm and...this map is ugly and silly but it represents me successfully finding the nearest Open Street Map node to each bus stop in the local transit network, so yay.
a zoomed in map centered on Bremerton, Washington. The map is dark with land as black and streets and water in grey. We see a lot of blue and orange circles. They are unlabeled, but the blue circles are Kitsap Transit bus stops and the underlying orange circles are nodes from Open Street Map. We see blue circles sitting on top of orange circles and no blue circles without an orange circle. This shows that all of the bus stops are matched up to a node. The map by itself is not particularly useful, but the author is excited because it is one step closer to a routing algorithm.

one of the great moments for taking your bike for errands is seeing the eyes of kids light up when they see you loading groceries or whatnot on your bike and them realizing that you can use a bike for real life - that spark is precious

I took this course and it was super fun and engaging. Like most adult education, you get out what you put in, but I would recommend if you like birds and/or data and want to engage with other similar nerds.

This collision was triggered by an elderly person suffering a medical emergency and sending a vehicle into another. The other driver was air lifted. We must have accessible mobility options for people as they age out of „safe“ driving - for them and every one else on the road.

If I were emperor for a day, one change I'd make: In every political race, at every level, at least the *first* debate would be replaced by a simple test of knowledge. How do taxes work? What agency is responsible for what? Is your area growing or shrinking in population? Just basic stuff.

Valid points! What counts most in service is the bus you can board. Once on, your speed of travel is secondary. Stop consolidation is a trade-off between access and “better metrics”, because we don’t count the outsourced cost to the rider before and after the ride. Be more rider focused!

I'm having a moment with transit bros. Have you tried walking to a bus stop with a toddler? Every foot counts, and stop consolidation doesn't work for so many of us. Talk to someone who uses a wheelchair about the rain. Or a walker on broken sidewalks. Your 3 min faster bus leaves us out.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The title reads, "Suddenly Finding A New Obsession".
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, in front of her computer. She has a bored expression on her face.
In the second panel we zoom in on her face. She looks suddenly alert.
In the third panel we zoom in even closer on her face. Her eyes and mouth are wide open in intrigue.
In the fourth panel we zoom out and see Sarah in front of her computer again, but this time she is dressed in a frog costume, surrounded by frog toys, and has an "I heart frogs" poster behind her.

WA House Bill 1418, provides Public Transportation Benefit Areas the option to add two transit-using voting members to their governing boards - one of which must be transit dependent. Having spent the past few years trying to advocate for better transit in my county, I support this idea.

Old Town Mercantile now has a little food cart and it’s open on Sunday! You can now easily have lunch on the Silverdale waterfront before or after your beach / paddle / park time ;)
A to go container of food in the foreground has homemade beans, cole slaw, and a hot dog with a generous condiment of mustard. A bicycle and the Dyes Inlet waterfront are in the background.

February Birds! Haikubox clocked 55 distinct #birds species (and most of these I confirmed - not each song, mind you). 38 were heard at least 3 times and made it on the graph. Chickadees, Anna's Hummingbirds, Kinglets and Nuthatches were most chatty.
A heat tile graphic that shows birds - alphabetically ranging from American Crow to Varied Thrush as rows (or y axis) and days of the month of February as columns (or x axis). The body of the heat map has boxes/cells for any given day and bird combination which are colored darker for more calls picked up by the haiku box. Most cells are "white" reflecting 0 calls or very pale colored, reflecting 1 or a few calls. The darkest cells only come on a few days for a few birds. The bird with most dark cells is Black capped Chickadee, followed by Anna's Hummingbird, Chestnut backed Chickadee, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and Song Sparrow.

I saw this (male house finch?) on a walking trail. he was just sitting on the ground shaking - didn't even move when my dog and I came by. I assume it was sick/recovering from some kind of attack, but I don't know. Ideas #birds ppl?
a house finch sits on a gravel background. bird is mostly grey, like the gravel, with bold red feathering on the head and upper. Bird looks rough, with feathers somewhat matted.

A heat map of the #birds my haiku box picked up (with >0.8 Score) in January of 2026. The top bird this month was Anna's Hummingbird - those chatty little buggers drove the scale - probably complaining they needed more food.
