Okay, I’ll try my best to explain it simply: A cisgender person is someone that identifies with their gender assigned at birth. A transgender person is someone that doesn’t identify with that identity. I was assigned male at birth and later medically transitioned to female

This is a fundamental disconnect and misunderstanding. I am a trans *woman*. Emphasis on the ‘woman’ part. I didn’t just “stay a man” because I was never comfortable being seen as male. My sexual orientation and gender identity have no bearing on each other

Because I am trans. I transitioned medically male-to-female. I currently live with cisgender female partner, who I’ve been in a relationship with for the better part of a decade. You can be both trans and a lesbian, it’s not that hard to understand

I do think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what a trans woman is. I’m not a “proud gay person”. The fact that I *am* a lesbian is coincidental. I’m trans because I’m trans. I recommend you do some more research before weighing in again

Who’s lying about who they are? I’m *proud* to be trans, and I’ve been present at *several* marches for my rights. This isn’t about people accepting me in my personal life, this about my not having to actually fear for my survival when I go out in public

Wow, I… don’t know if I can put into words how much this resonates. Nobody in my immediate family has reacted well to my transition and that’s made it so terrifying to talk about. I’m not hopeful that I’ll hear them say my name before my next birthday, but it would be the best gift I could ever get
