Life wouldn’t be funny if it made sense. Mets-Jets-Nets since 1980. Doug Flynn is my spirit animal.

And the Lions have been terrible too. They happen to be good now but for 66 years—1957–2023–they won exactly one playoff game. 66 years!

Imagine what the Marlins could do if their owners actually cared about winning and not just cashin’ dem checks.

That does it. #Mets now clinched a top-6 spot. Whether the lottery is kind to them is a different question.

Methinks the #Mets have a magic number of 1 to clinch a top-6 pick next year. If either the Reds or Mariners win, the Mets stay in the top 6. If I read the rules right, the tiebreaker is last year’s record and the Mets were worse than either team.

It’s not even a question. Which means Stewart will definitely win.

But we learned so much about Marcus Semien these last two months. #FireStearns

Skubal is staying a Dodger. No worries that the #Mets may spend on him.

Agree with all that. But doubt that the Mets give up on Semien. I wish they would but….

Because he may not hit 35 homers in 2029 and 2030. Sigh.

But but but his RBIs! I gave up on awards when Rafael Palmeiro won a Gold Glove for playing 28 games at first base. Still frustrating to see nonsense like this rewarded.

Just stop. He is who he is. A very inconsistent guy with occasional hot streaks. If they can’t find a better super-utility guy, he can stay one more year because he’s still inexpensive. If any team wants to offer anything of value for him, trade him.

All that is left of the once-great show is its homages and knowing winks. Otherwise, just a sad echo of what it was.

He has zero value. Either bite the bullet and non-tender him or give him a shot at being a righty half of a first base platoon. I personally can’t stand seeing him wear the uniform so I really hope it is the former.

Flipped to the #Braves and saw Kim bat. .115 BA. 122 at bats and one double all year. That’s the only extra base hit all year. How?

As always, two things can be true. Stearns can have improved the club since it was old and lacked a real minor league system AND he can have had one of the worst offseasons in anyone’s memory. I expect he gets one more year to prove he can learn from this disaster.

Can the Dolphins be disappointing? They are trying to go 2-15 and pick 1st

I look at it this way: Mets started 10-21 and have been at .500 since (59-59). With the rookies and a better right side of the infield, they seem likely to be in at least wild card contention next year. OMG do I hate the sight of Semien on a daily basis. Just cut him and let anyone else play 2nd.

Brewers are in the range of 18th-22nd in payroll TB è last five years. That’s below average. Attanasio is happy to cash the checks and make a profit every year.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Brewers never should have done anything with Taylor. He is in a unique run right now. Brewers only “losing”the trade because he is helping the Cubs

Tyrone is awesome. And Rojas looks great. A win-win for the Cubs-Mets and a loss for the Brewers, owned by another billionaire who cries poverty constantly. While spending $6 million to buy sand next to his Malibu house so he won’t have neighbors there.

Vientos and Semien has to be the worst right side of an infield in MLB. How could it be worse? #Mets

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
One benefit of the inevitable lockout and loss of games…minor leaguers still play. So Semien sits while Rojas and Voit and Pitre get ready to (hopefully) replace him

If the Brewers win this year, does that mean that we don’t need a salary cap?
000
JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Definitely. Money has its advantages. But to stop a season in its tracks and do who knows how much damage to the fans for who knows how many years? Really? We learned nothing from 1994-1995?
010
JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
There are a lot of ways that the owners could tweak the current system to improve it. But they don’t really want that; they just want cost (meaning profit) certainty. Again, capitalists turned communists.

Of course, every market can compete. Rays and Brewers prove that.
010
JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Who said anything about small market? Where is it written that small market teams need to win some proportion of titles? My point is that if you have 10 different winners in 16 years, you have parity. If a market is too small to compete, contract it. No requirement to have 30 teams.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
MLB Series winners since 2010 with number of titles: Giants 3 Dodgers 3 Red Sox 2 Astros 2 Cardinals Royals Cubs Nationals Braves Rangers 10 teams in 16 years. I’d call that parity. People are mistaking a momentary blip of Dodger dominance for some structural problem.

Simple rule on baseline calls: If the infield literally has a line where one side has all kinds of cleat marks and the other is pristine, a runner who steps into the untouched part is definitely out of the baseline. #UmpShow

Having grown up in NY and now living in LA, let me tell you that Trump is completely a creation of NYC. No way you can put that on LA.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
All MLB has to do is create a pitching taxi squad. You carry 15 pitchers but only 10 are active any given game. Every team has sufficient arms even for blowouts and all that has to happen is owners have to pay for two more minimum salaries.

110
JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
The NFL doesn’t guarantee salaries, which is a huge difference from MLB. Any salary cap in MLB is just an excuse to guarantee annual profits for all owners. All the owners are rapacious capitalists until they buy a team when they become communists
010
JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Even without the leaked info, estimates are that the Pirates and Marlins and other zombie owners get about $75 million a year. Add the fact that baseball owners have never told the truth for 150 years, and we can feel pretty confident that a salary cap is a bullshit solution to an invented problem.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
It’s not just this year. This is a #Mets pattern. Almost every year, they settle in and make like 10 outs in a row on about 26 pitches.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Yup, you’re right. He is great and will not go 3-28 with 11 K’s the next 10 days. Because those three months in 2024 outweigh all the evidence of the other years of his career.

JerseyLefty @jerseylefty.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Can we trade him now? While he has some value?

I missed that special feeling of frustration that Vientos brings to the #Mets. Two at bats, three outs. He is truly gifted.
