Was kinda curious about some of the old desk hardware I've got laying around. Cut one into a planing stop for #woodworking
Before/after shots of some old desk hardware I made into a planing stop. Also a file, square, drill bits, 3in1 oil, etc. scattered around the workbench. The new planing stop screwed onto the workbench with a random piece of pallet wood on it, along with my jack plane and a brush I use to sweep dust off the workbench.

Hand-planing pallet wood continues to be good exercise, and it's the primary reason why I keep at it rather than just buying new wood. Though some of the wood is good, too - and I should be trying to avoid blowing a bunch of money on materials before I've got more #woodworking experience.
A bunch of roughly planed pallet wood on my workbench with a jack plane and candle (for waxing the bottom of the plane for smoother work).

Gonna evaluate what's good and properly dimension it later, just wanted to get the crap outer layer off.The remaining few pieces of pallet wood that I need to de-nail and otherwise clean up before use.

Loaded up Elite: Dangerous for the first time in so long that the game actually failed to load my profile/account data the first time I tried to load up do fly around solo. I think it had to do some sort of conversion/upgrade first. A couple of jumps and I randomly happened upon a pulsar.
A pulsar in Elite: Dangerous. I heard you can do funky FSD stuff with it but I decided I'd rather not risk my ship while I can barely remember how to play the game.

New soldering iron get.
A Hakko FX888DX soldering iron (and the holder/cleaner thing for it). They seemed pretty popular and super well-regarded, so I decided I'd give it a shot.

I'd probably still be using it if I wasn't running into lead-free solder which I can barely heat enough (and it takes like 20-30 seconds to actually heat the joint after the iron has warmed up).
An apparently-dangerous soldering iron.

Alternatively, you could build one. Since I primarily play on PC, the PCB was cheap and the buttons weren't too bad. Most of the work was deciding on a layout and making the box. Shoutout to @szego.ca for pointing me in the right direction.

Kludged a vise onto the crappy folding table I've been using as a workbench. I'm gonna build an actual workbench at some point later, but sometimes it feels like you need a workbench to build a workbench. Been laying boards under the legs w/bottles of water to weigh it down.
Underside of the table with the vise mounted to the bottom.Front of the vise, from below (planed the bottom jaws flush with each other).Table upright with the vise closed. def wasn't perfect w/mounting it but it's usable.Table with a random scrap board in the vise jaws.

Found out herb strippers were a thing earlier, so I took a shot at making a couple (and beveled the edges bit so they can also be used as bench scrapers). #woodworking Worked really well on some cilantro I've got on hand. Gonna make taco and chicken masala, etc. a little more convenient.
A couple of vaguely leaf-shaped thin pieces of [red?] oak wood with a series of holes (3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 15mm) drilled into 'em for pulling herbs through to strip off the leaves. They're finished with 2 coats of mineral oil and 1 coat of beeswax + mineral oil butcher block conditioner. The straight edges on the bottoms of the strippers are slightly beveled to act as bench scrapers.

There's also 3 small capybara figures standing around the herb strippers.

All placed on a piece of plain unfinished wood (pine or something?)

A clumsy makeshift solution is kinda okay. I think this weekend I'll see about making something robust that doesn't wobble as much. For this one, I was just attaching the drill to one end and holding it against the bench while holding a rasp up to the wood.
A vaguely cylindrical piece of wood being held roughly level against the left side of a makeshift lathe. The right side has a large wood screw sticking out which I'd spin with my drill.

Pretty apparent that this is my first attempt at engraving at all, but I think it's a pretty good start.
Initial engraving of my J logo on a piece of brass. Can also see the dremel tool (flex shaft) with one of the engraving bits on it.After some initial polishing with a 300-grit sanding dremel bit (one of those wire brush looking things), I used a square and sharpie to mark the cut on the sheet of brass. After cutting my engraved logo out of the main sheet of brass, I took some time to file down the corners and clean up some burrs.

Can also see the hacksaw in the background.Close-up of the ~finished rounded brass square with my J logo on it (a little bit off-center). Can also see the head of the dremel tool with one of the polishing bits, and some of the red polishing compound that came with the dremel tool.

Can also see the jaws of some pliers I have with some sticky-backed foam inside the jaws to avoid scratching the brass (to hold it while polishing).

Been wanting to try some engraving and also been watching Uri Tuchman lately -- decided to try the method he showed for transferring laser printed designs onto brass. Real acetone would have been better, but for now all I have is dry erase board cleaner. First attempt went alright...
A bunch of mirrored Jerp 'J' logos of different sizes printed on a sheet of paper. One of the smaller copies is cut out and has already been ~mostly applied to a fresh 6x6-inch sheet of 1mm thick brass.

A small hand clamp, a small block of wood, some paper towels, scissors, and a small dust brush are also visible.Close-up of the Jerp 'J' logo mostly-applied to a piece of brass - a small bit of the top-left of the design didn't perfectly transfer.

Starting on that router plane. Remembered a little late that just sawing the sides in a bit is cleaner than trying to use a knife or chisel to cut the edges. It'll be on the inside at least. Can also see that I marked where I'm gonna chop the other end of the was-wrench.
Marking a piece of oak to to use as a router plane - lines for the width of the tool and the groove where the blade fits.

Got a small pencil, WIP router plane blade, utility knife, and square in the foreground.Router plane body with the groove cut for the blade. Have the wood clamped down, one of my chisels and mallet are visible.

Also a brass engraved square with my logo on it is loosely resting on the mallet. The router plane body cut off of the board I made it from. I've got it marked to split it into two halves to sandwich together with the groove on the inside.

Taking a shot at making a router plane blade from one of those random wrenches you get when buying furniture (or whatever it was from?) Got it nice and shaving sharp, and seems at least as hard as the admittedly cheap chisels I own. Router plane later... #woodworking

Made a makeshift vise to have a temp solution before I actually make a proper workbench. That and putting some heavy weights on the crappy folding table and it's much easier to do some planing. #woodworking I could take this a little bit further with a couple of long bolts instead of clamps.

Assembling the new elastic loop was pretty easy.
Inside the two metal butter cookie tins is sewing supplies (of course). Out of all of this, I'm just using some of the thread and the bundle of elastic material. The plastic buckles and cord for that and D-rings are for other projects. The utility knife placed on the elastic cord to hold it down while I cut it. The circle cutter blade is out and I've already cut a piece for the new elastic pen loop thing. Also pictured is a metal ruler and a small lighter, all on the self-healing work mat. In the top-right corner is the pen that the new loop thing will hold. The edges of the freshly-cut elastic piece are already melted with the lighter.Close-up of the initial stitch to close the elastic loop. One thing I really want for #StreetFighter6 is some sort of indicator to show which active frame hit the opponent so it's easier to understand some combos and juggles (note the uninterrupted yellow recovery frames on the opponent).
A screenshot of Street Fighter 6 in training mode with Jamie using his Arrow Kick on Ryu. The frame meter has a couple of extra triangle indicators to suggest which active frame hit the opponent and drawn red arrows pointing towards those indicators.
