They preach "Alberta First" while promising the Americans our water, oil, and land. I joined Edmonton's Mayor Andrew Knack on CBC's Power & Politics to call out the hypocrisy of the Alberta separatist movement. You don’t defend Alberta by putting our province up for sale to the United States.

We need to talk about the separatists selling out our city and province. MAGA operatives came to Calgary to help carve up our country. Meanwhile, separatist leaders went to Washington promising our water, our oil, and our land. If you want to live in the United States, move to the United States.

Every dollar raised supports families impacted by domestic violence as they rebuild, reconnect and heal. Thank you to Radiance for helping make Calgary safer and stronger.

Calgary City Council has taken a stand for a strong, united Canada. I joined Rosemary Barton to talk about why Councillor Yule and I brought forward our pro-Canada motion. Calgary has a lot to lose from separation and a lot to gain by sticking together.

Calgary is approaching two million people. The infrastructure decisions we make today will shape how people move around this region for generations. This is the kind of long-term infrastructure planning a growing Alberta needs, and I’m excited to see the work moving forward.

For Calgary, this is also part of a bigger transportation vision. Better regional rail, stronger connections to our airport, and reliable public transit all need to work together as our city grows.

Connecting Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton by high-speed rail would bring our major economic centres closer together, create new opportunities for workers and businesses, and strengthen Alberta’s connections to the rest of Canada and the world.

I was thrilled to join Premier Danielle Smith, Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen, and federal Minister for Prairies Economic Development Canada Eleanor Olszewski for an important step toward high-speed rail between Calgary and Edmonton.

Reconciliation requires more than words. It requires action. This is an important step forward.

This milestone follows years of leadership from Indigenous communities, guidance from Elders, advocacy and partnership. Thank you to the Indigenous Gathering Place Society and The Confluence for the years of work that brought us here.

A portion of City-owned land will now be set aside for the future Indigenous Gathering Place. It will be a permanent and visible place for Indigenous Peoples to gather, practise culture and ceremony, share knowledge, and strengthen community for generations to come.

On Orange Shirt Day, I was proud to announce that the Indigenous Gathering Place has found a permanent home at The Confluence. Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet, has been a place of gathering for Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial.

I looked into reports of the City removing some referendum signs. They made a mistake. While I don't direct staff and was not personally involved, I am genuinely sorry that our team got it wrong. The rules must apply equally to everyone, including people I disagree with.

Calgary is growing fast, and we need more homes of all kinds. It was great to kick off Calgary’s 2026 Housing Summit, bringing nearly 500 leaders together to tackle our housing opportunities, strengthen partnerships and get more housing built.

City Hall School is back! It’s one of my favourite parts of being Mayor. I had a blast with the Grade 6 students from Louis Riel School. They came ready with great questions. No softballs either! The kids are alright!

We cannot speak of reconciliation while ignoring Indigenous leaders when they defend their Treaties. Calgary is in Treaty 7 territory. Treaty is more than history. It is a living relationship and a responsibility we share. We are all treaty people. Today we remember. We listen. We tell the truth.
172
Jeromy Farkas @jeromyyyc.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The Chiefs of Treaties 6, 7 and 8 have raised serious concerns about Alberta separation and the threat it poses to Treaty rights. I brought a motion to Calgary City Council affirming Calgary’s place in a strong, united Canada.

It will provide a permanent place for ceremony, language, culture, teaching and community. A place built for generations to come. We also mark this day at a difficult moment for our country.

And we recognize the profound injustice of residential schools and the harm that continues across generations. Reconciliation requires more than remembrance. It requires action. Today, we announced that the Indigenous Gathering Place will move ahead at The Confluence.

Today, Calgarians came together at The Confluence to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. We remember the children who never came home. We honour Survivors, their families and their communities.

A new report puts a price tag on Alberta separation: up to 69,000 fewer Calgary jobs and a $9-billion annual hole in Alberta's finances. Calgary depends on trade, investment, and talent. We should be building that strength, not putting it at risk.

High-speed rail between Calgary and Edmonton is moving forward, and this is a big opportunity for our city. Let's connect our downtowns, grow our economic corridor and make sure Calgary's airport is part of the network. Alberta is growing. Let's build for it.

We need to talk about what the Province is doing to our firefighters. Calgary is being shortchanged on healthcare, leaving firefighters to pick up the slack. They responded to 5,941 overdose calls in 7 months. Calgary is ready to work together. After seven years, we need the Province at the table.

A safer, stronger Calgary starts with getting the basics right. The new 2.4 km Sunnyside Flood Barrier is finished and ready to protect Sunnyside and Hillhurst from a 1-in-100 year flood. Since 2013, our flood work has cut Calgary’s flood risk by about 70%.

Our pivot away from blanket rezoning doesn’t mean building less housing. It means finding more ways to get homes built, and better using our exisiting infrastructure. I recently joined Coun. Clark to mark the redevelopment of Bridgeland Place.

One person can’t pull a plane. But a team sure can! The United Way Plane Pull is BACK after going dormant during COVID. Teams pulled together, moved one seriously heavy plane and raised money for Calgarians in need. That’s Calgary: when we pull together, big things move.

One of the best parts of being Mayor is recognizing Calgarians who step up. Theo is only six years old, but his quick thinking helped stop a potentially deadly fire. It was an honour for Council to recognize Theo and his proud mom and dad at City Hall. Calgary is proud of you, Theo!
