Tiny teaser for the #AdventOfCode survey results that are coming up this weekend! I'm *amazed* at how stable the main results for "Reasons to participate" are. For 8 years in a row every answer gets picked roughly by the same % of people! 😲 Somehow I'd expected at least *some* fluctuations!

Colorful bar chart showing series for 2018 through 2025, and clustered bars for those series. Each cluster remains stable at the same height with minor fluctuations. Categories like "For fun" and "For a challenge"

After the break the fifth and last #Fronteers presentation was by @dylanbeatt.ie - an amazing rundown of the Rockstar programming language. Including some live rock music!! :D - couldn't have asked for a better closing talk, well done!

Sketch notes showing a mixture of rock related terms, and programming history related terms. Many terms around "Rockstar" programming language too.

Fourth #Fronteers presentation was by Rune Devuyst on the impact of our colour choices! Missed my chance at the survey to claim 'hotpink' as my fav. but duty called to draw up some sketch notes:

Sketch notes centering about a "Light Mode vs Dark Mode" sketch, and several terms around screens and the impact we have with colour choices.

One of them is from 2018, when I started sketch noting (during Dutch Clojure Days 2018). Pretty proud of Jeroen-from-the-past for publicly showing them even though the quality was... pretty low. Gotta start somewhere!

Photo of pen-and-paper notes (icons and terms), written with fine-liner pens. Looks quite bare-bones, with mediocre handwriting and pretty bad drawings of things like hands, lightbulbs, and other icons.

Kagi is on my "should try" list! As for example queries, here's a very typical one for "npmjs sveltekit": - garbled preview texts in DDG - the GitHub repo is a useful result but doesn't show in DDG - DDG recommends I quote "npmjs" but if you do the npmjs results *disappear*

Side-by-side browser windows with DuckDuckGo and Google for query "npmjs sveltekit", with DuckDuckGo showing garbled search result texts.

Been a little while, but last week I was on stage again at a meetup. This time to speak about "The Essential Soft Skills in Tech", at the #DomCode and #OdeToCode cross-over meetup in Utrecht! 😊 A few folks have suggested I submit the presentation to other user groups too, considering that now... 👀
