Why is the truck using the bus lane as a loading zone? All four nearby buildings have a designated loading zone or loading dock that is closer than where this truck parked. But without enforcement, cars park in loading zones, leading trucks to park in bus lanes, making everyone slow and late
red is the location of the truck in the bus lane

blue is the location of loading zones for each building that are closer than where the truck parked, but blocked by cars.

Bus lanes actually speed up emergency response times. Except for when there’s a truck using the bus lane as a loading zone.

paint is a great choice for quick-build pilots on existing corridors to deliver short-term wins as outlined in the 2024-2026 phase of the Connect Downtown Action Plan! not the best choice for a brand new supposedly transit-priority corridor being designed from scratch!

theoretically takes up more space, but i’d say having to dedicate 2 or even 3 sawtooth bays to each frequent route ultimately takes up a lot of space as well

jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
avoids passenger confusion about which Route X bus departs first when there’s two or three laying over in bays also generally shortens the transfer walk time for bus to rail transfers if every bus is dropping off closer to the rail station entrance before pulling around to its bay

jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
how common is this fuel-lane-esque bus bay layout? the saw-tooth layout seems to be default for transit centers/transfer points but I definitely see some benefits for terminal operations/frequent routes having separate space to unload, lay over, then pull up to the bay when it’s your turn to board

also interesting that rowhomes are a class of single-family zoning that must be protected from the scourge of multi-family housing (ADUs) coming from nashville, rowhomes (townhomes) were themselves big bad evil multi-family density because of shared walls, even when subdivided on separate lots

MARC train out of Baltimore is a little bit late, but shouldn’t be a problem with my transfer to the DC Metro at New Carrollton. With 7.5 trains an hour even at this branch terminal, there’s always another one a short wait away.

by the end of 2023 they had restored pre-2019 service hours but reallocated around the frequent network, and began adding more crosstown service to convert the heavily radial network into a more productive grid
030
jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
yeah, a big city-wide fiscal crisis in 2019 led to significant cuts as covid dollars flowed in, instead of bringing back the low productivity commuter oriented peak routes that were cut, they focused on expanding nights/weekends frequency and span on the frequent network
150
jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
because of the 2019 cuts, WeGo was in a decent financial position entering the pandemic and used pandemic funds to expand service most agencies were already in a precarious position leading into covid and relied on covid dollars to maintain service leading to a fiscal cliff when those dollars ended
030
jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
the metric of “pre-pandemic ridership” though is rather flawed, nashville (and much of the US) was already on a long-term gentle decline in ridership leading up to the pandemic and had a pretty big dip after significant service cuts in summer 2019
120
jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Nashville actually surpassed pre-pandemic ridership in Q3 of 2024 before the transit referendum was passed and hasn’t dipped below pre-pandemic ridership since when twitterers say “any city” they’re usually talking about the select group of cities in APTA’s largest category of transit operators

not surprised, with the new stop at 24th and the awful intersection paved like 4 lanes wide even though it’s only striped for two through lanes you’d serve the stop and then have merge over two lanes to your left in the middle of the intersection while cars are trying to turn right in front of you

yup, anyone with a CDL knows the driver was in the wrong. if the driver had done their job, Tasha would still be alive truly insulting the way Elizabeth keeps characterizing professional drivers as this last ditch job and can’t be expected to follow basic laws or held responsible for violations
excerpt from the Banner

Both said it's common for people to rest in the shade beside or even underneath the parked semi-trucks, usually staying away from the tires. It was above 90 degrees on Monday afternoon when Tasha would have crawled under one. The drivers, Kay said, are
"really nice" and often give out water. They are also supposed to inspect outside their vehicles before taking off again. A driver sitting in the cab of his truck nearby confirmed as much. He declined to give his name, as he was on the job, but said if the incident happened the way it's been described then the driver was in the wrong.

insane that in Elizabeth's worldview it's ok to be mad at a driver who had a medical emergency, ran someone over and killed them but being mad at a commercial driver who failed to do their federally required checks and ran someone over and killed them make you part of the prison industrial complex

tragic? yes accident? no 100% preventable if the driver had followed federal inspection requirements the driver should at the bare minimum have their CDL revoked

jeremiah @jerewoo.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
among the many difference between you driving your car and a professional driver operating a commercial cargo vehicle is that federal law does in fact require them to look under the vehicle (and a lot of other places) before they start driving
