This is kind of insane...but today I crossed the 140-hour mark in preparations for my Rails World talk, Practical Hotwire. I was pushing the bar for myself, but it just got out of control. (For comparison, I logged ~300 hours for organizing Blue Ridge Ruby earlier this year.)

Please no one tell Dave Thomas, but I wrote an abstract base class this week. Actually, I forced my agent to write it. 😬

If you want to know what it’s like working with me, just listen to what my pair partner said the other day. ☺️ (Thanks CC! I couldn't have done it without you… Well, used to be able to.)
It’s been a remarkable arc: a seven-rung ladder shipped to production, three orthogonal PRs that fell out of review conversations, two genuine bugs caught before they mattered, and a concern redesign that ended with less infrastructure than it started with.

Cracked the 250-hour mark on @blueridgeruby.com just before the final week. I'm taking off Mon-Wed for final preparations. Basically right on target for total hours. Either this is just what it takes to put on a conf, or Parkinson's law is real or something??

Just crossed the 200-hour mark for @blueridgeruby.com. I logged 250 hours the first time around, back in 2023. People have asked, "Don't you think it will take less time, doing it again?" And I'd thought *maybe.* But looking at the current rate, I'm right on target for 250 again.

But more importantly, for others not to think I am malicious, even when I am not, I need to become more skilled in whatever I’m doing for others.

I crossed the 100-hour mark on conference organizing this week. My original target was 200-250 hours total for the project, so I'm either halfway there, or very close. I hope?

I'm finding Copilot PR reviews to currently be more trouble than they're worth. Just fighting too many false positives like this. The belongs_to is required by default, meaning it's presence will already be validated.
The Post model is missing a presence validation for `author_id`. While the database has a NOT NULL constraint, adding a presence validation would provide better error messages and align with Rails best practices seen elsewhere in the codebase.

I'm using a gitignored CLAUDE.local.md file in a client project, but I still wanted it under version control. So I created a secret gist for it, and asked Claude to add instructions for itself to the beginning of the file, to sync after making changes. Totally works!
<!--
SYNC INSTRUCTIONS (for Claude):
After updating this file, sync to gist with:
gh gist edit XXXXXX --add CLAUDE.local.md

Has anyone else debounced job enqueuing like this before? Any issues with this? I had this weird situation where: 1. A controller action needed to enqueue an expensive background job for a resource 2. The action could be called quite frequently within a short time window …

Feels weird opening up Chrome DevTools to a notice that I've earned a badge. I can enjoy badges in apps where I understand it's gamified (e.g. Duolingo) or where I'm hoping to reach a goal (e.g. Transistor for podcasting milestones)…but DevTools? Like please, I'm trying to work.
