Dry rivers are not necessarily dead rivers. But we need a much stronger commitment by social scientists to understand how people relate to rivers that run dry either naturally or, increasingly, owing to climate change or extraction. My latest: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.... #dry #rivers

I see; yes, their are several arguments around scale. Planetary Boundaries, however, aren't set-points; the authors of PB papers are clear that boundaries are not the same as tipping points. Boundaries are set in proximity to Earth's limits. So, it will be great to hear your thoughts on the writing!

I don't know if any take exactly that view. Several agree on not managing a limit from outside. Several have variants of being part of the system (some Indigenous, others biocentric (broadly construed)). But I'm not sure about the 'set-points they shift' part. Could you elaborate a bit on it?

The book doesn't lean any particular way. Some authors take the PB framework and work within it, while others are critical of the framework or parts of it. As editors, we encouraged all engagements to start a broader ethical discussion we think is important to have.

This is wild. 93% of the renewable electricity generation added to the Irish grid over that last decade now powers data centers, rather than reducing fossil fuel use. Data centers have pretty much annihilated the health and climate benefits those renewables could have provided.
