Steven, the best thing in the world is a good pair of socks. The second best thing is that chess board you made for #TheSqueezle a few years back.

It's not an accident, I won't leak a smile in a profile photo until high temps drop below 70 and humidity stabilizes below 50%.

Checking off a bucket list item — cooking on a finicky AGA in the Cotswolds. Over a couple of days, made beef stew, pulled lamb, falafel, several breakfasts and countless pots of tea.

Okay, we got seven (7) pounds of ribeye on the smoker today. With a little bourbon for me, as a treat.

Sous vide (in triple digits on the porch), then smoke. Turned out great!

The eldest daughter has figured out that you can buy three pomegranates for ~$15 or you can buy one little tub of pomegranate seeds for ~$12. Reader, she has watched youtube videos and is now a proficient pomegranate butcher.

I grew up in south Georgia and somehow these are still nostalgic. Maybe the combo of colors / fonts / car shapes still works for the late 70s - early 80s near the Florida / Georgia border?

Pork and pineapple is a "yes" from me.
010
Jeremy Bowers @jeremybowers.com · 16/06/2026
I honestly think any fruit juice works here. I have been thinking about grape jelly + onions + soy sauce and it's basically just salt + sugar + alliums. The pineapple is just "replace with any sugar of your choice" IMHO.

Also the two-cook method is vastly superior. I've been doing sous-vide >> smoke the next day and the results are set-and-forget good.

They definitely HAD brown sugar at the Piggly Wiggly but I don't think he'd have touched it for non-baking needs.

This is like how my grandpa made his ribs: * soaked them in a black plastic trash bag in his garage fridge overnight with onions, soy sauce and grape jelly * braised in the oven until they were basically meat Jello * chilled overnight and grilled next day until with sauce for a caramelized crust

New leases usually come with furniture allowances; moving old furniture is surprisingly expensive; moving is operational cost while new furniture is a capital cost; net loss on asset disposal can shield from future tax liabilities. (I've been thinking about this a lot lately)

Sauce is Vidalia (do NOT autocorrect to Visalia, good grief phone!) onions, blackstrap molasses, apple cider vinegar, fish sauce salt, yellow mustard, strawberry jelly, bourbon, fernet, and cane syrup cola.

I cook in the oven first (Saran wrap, tin foil) before a brief blast on the smoker to add some color and some wood. Cool, rainy weather is perfect for keeping temps down.

Mine were both aghast that I found ANY similarities between them and any other person in the world (YES, WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS) but so many of the grace notes just hit me like a ton of bricks — bag charms, "it's just whatever's pink," "I could be listening to an audiobook instead of doing that."
