Oh god - I could totally see Ackman's ego getting stroked to the point that he decides to make an independent run at it -he still has time to file IIRC (with alt text)
A tweet from Ayyan Hirsi Ali (@Ayaan) -
Ackman offers exactly what New York needs: competence, economic understanding, and the courage to lead with principle. @BillAckman

With an image of Bill Ackman's punchable mug and the text "Bill Ackman for Mayor of New York" superimposed on it

*Laughing maniacally until I start to cry*
Lindsay and Tobias from Arrested Development on the couch talking to each other:

Lindsay: Well, did it work for those people?

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...

Tobias: But it might work for us.

Shortly afterward we moved away so I didn't get to continue with those friends. But I'd kind of imprinted on the games a lot. A little while later I was gifted a stack of Dynamite! magazines by my dad's cousin, who was closer in age to me than to him. One of them had an article about D&D in it 8/
First page of an article from the March 1981 issue of Dynamite! magazine with a picture of two young women and a guy sitting at a table with a very nicely done miniature dungeon in front of them. The young folks look very late 1970s in their hair and clothing.

The heading on the article reads "Are you bored with Bingo? Sick of Sorry? Peeved by Parcheesi? Maybe you're ready for the fantastic fun of Dungeons and Dragons!"

One of my friends in that group had a a copy of the Dungeon! boardgame, and she recognized the kind of pattern of that game as being similar to what we were doing. I played that over at her house a few times and loved it too, to the point where later I got it for Christmas from my parents 7/

Folks, is it good when "Extreme Fear" is driving the market?
Screen shot from CNN pre-market April 6 at 7:30pm showing drops in the 3 major us market averages of between 3.8 to 5.18%. The CNN market dial at the top shows a range from "Extreme fear" on the left to "Extreme greed" on the right. The arrow is pegging the left side of the dial with the words "Extreme Fear is driving the market" next to it.

I heard about this on @flophousepodcast.bsky.social and had to go see for myself Google's AI will tell you that Tom Brokaw is a huge Dune lover from the running gag on the show that shows up in summaries and on their wiki. Wholly fabricated as a gag, no other sources, and treated as fact
Screenshot of Google search result for "does Tom Brokaw enjoy Dune"

Yes, Tom Brokaw is known for his love of the science fiction story "Dune" and has even discussed it on the Flop House podcast, including a mini-episode dedicated to his passion for the story.
Here's a more detailed look:

    Flop House Podcast:
Brokaw has been a guest on the Flop House podcast, and they have discussed his love for "Dune".

    Mini-Episode:
The Flop House podcast even dedicated a mini-episode to Brokaw's "Dune" enthusiasm, titled "FH Mini 15 – Tom Brokaw's Dune".

    "Dune" Musical Pitch:
The Flop House podcast hosts even channeled Brokaw's persona to pitch a musical adaptation of "Dune" using the songs from "Fiddler on the Roof".

Benoit Blanc from Glass Onion calling out the very thinly veiled Elon Musk inspired villain's plan as dumb. When asked if it's so dumb it's brilliant he snaps back "No! It's just dumb!:

But hey at least the value of the dollar isn't also falling like a rock to make imports even more expensive and exports even less lucrative

From Deep Throat in All the President's Men: "Then there must be something, mustn't there. Look, forget the myths the media has created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand."

I'm reminded of the fact that tobacco companies knew the deadly effects of their product and sold it anyway. Or the oil companies and climate change They know what they're doing - they're making money. Consequences be damned
New Yorker cartoon of a man in torn clothes speaking to kids in similar clothes around a campfire. The man says "Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders."

Other cities need to step up their game - these guys think it's acceptable because they face no consequences for their harassment
Quote from a Nazi shithead who Found Out after Fucking Around: “We do this all over the U.S., and we’ve never been attacked like this, man,” the driver told police from his seat in the U-Haul.

A month back a bunch of Nazis marched in the street in Columbus OH and they were harassing folks. Turns out folks in this burg don't like it when masked dude carrying Nazi flags march around calling people slurs
Quote from the Columbus Dispatch: In body camera footage Columbus police released Monday, the neo-Nazis told police they had never experienced a response like the one they received in Columbus. They said people pulled guns on them and threw cans and vegetables as they marched, waved flags and yelled racial slurs. One of the officers noted the men were “covered in” pepper spray.

This is why I say that debates are not for normal people, they're for the NYT and the WaPo. They exist to generate drama for the press to talk about not to inform the public. At least since the LWV stopped doing them. Candidates who don't understand this dynamic will never do well at a "debate"
On debate night, taking the issues seriously meant asking Harris earlier, and at greater length, about why she'd changed her position to support fracking—a rote question about a rote bit of pandering—than both candidates were asked about the totality of their positions on the global climate catastrophe, a subject about which they hold diametrically, world-changingly opposite views. Harris's assignment wasn't to talk about policy; it was to deliver campaign messages while performing a role in a two-person improvised drama.

One of the underreported things about this particular attack by Vance is that they are deliberately calling these folks "illegal" immigrants when they are refugees. Trump has been doing this forever and the far right does not believe that refugee status is a legitimate form of immigration
From the article: The Haitian immigrants in Springfield are doing precisely what conservatives say they want immigrants to do: come legally, work hard, and contribute to their new home. But precisely because these immigrants were doing what they were asked, it was necessary to lie about them. As Vance’s response indicates, it does not matter to him if the scurrilous accusations he was making are true. He does not care. If immigration is bad and immigrants are bad, then even a lie serves a larger truth.
