This is my 50th of these, and I can honestly say I've never had a year end as such an abject disaster after starting with so much promise. A year ago this week I was introduced to the person who was supposed to be my step-daughter, by the woman who was supposed to be my person. We were so close.

Doing people wrong and then disappearing isn't "protecting your peace." It's just running from the mess you created.

You don't get to hurt someone, stay silent, and then act like distance is healing it's not.

It's just a quiet place where your guilt echoes louder.

Real peace comes from honesty, from facing the truth, from apologizing when you know you should. Not from blocking conversations, not from pretending you're the victim.

Avoiding accountability isn't self-care. It's self-deception.

Because peace built on someone else's pain is never peace it's just avoidance wearing a pretty name.
