Donald Trump has fallen asleep 30 times during public events. So far. I don’t know what it means, but that feels worth mentioning.

…which is one reason I would never spend a penny on prediction markets like Kalshi, which are built for insiders to game and take money from compulsive gamblers. But the dangers of algorithmically-prompted gambling are as impossible to ignore as they are difficult to regulate. We need federal law.

This thread terrifies me. I’m a member of the Connecticut Lottery’s board of directors, which means I am a regulator for gambling systems. These digital betting platforms terrify me, including the ones I help oversee. My most basic concern is maintaining fairness…

Also, when is Sorkin going to give us the drama series about making a South Park analogue going into its 23rd season with an executive producer worried about losing his creative edge, an up-and-coming writer looking to breathe new life into a beloved classic series, and a competent ditz?

It was a *big* number. And while that boss was engaging a bit in what I call “helpful dickishness,” I took the intended lesson to heart as soon as I heard about it. In retrospect, I’m very glad that (a) I learned this early in high school, and (b) this happened to someone else.

Around 28 years ago, on the first day of his internship, my sister’s then-boyfriend was asked to introduce himself to his coworkers and say a little about himself. After the meeting, his new boss asked him to stay back and showed him a tally sheet. Each mark represented a time he had said “like.”

My dad’s a fire scientist, and his favorite thing as an expert witness is writing quizzes for his clients to pose to opposing experts about basic things like “what is a joule?” and “what are the byproducts of the combustion of methane gas?” He considers it a mitzvah to help weed out the hacks.

To give a concrete (eh…bituminous and packed earth) example, the Case Mountain trail system includes a connection to the East Coast Greenway, which runs into downtown Manchester and connects with paths and bike lanes that cover almost the entire town (with one notable gap that I’m trying to close).

I’ve got a fake front tooth because of a childhood bike accident. My nephew is in a cast from a serious accident last month. Cars weren’t involved in either of our crashes. Helmets were, and limited the damage significantly.

Jerald Lentini @jerald.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Bullshit. This was my nephew’s helmet after his bike crash. He broke his arm and suffered a concussion. The only factors were speed, asphalt, overconfidence, and bad luck. The only MV involved was the ambulance. He’s alive because of this helmet. Helmets work. They’re good. Use them, ffs.

When your government says it’s planning to open multiple prisons that will house up to 3,000 children, it’s time to demand a new government. There is no context in which this is legitimate or acceptable.
