The theory that news headlines that end with a question mark can always be answered with NO, really gets proven here.

I’ve said this before, but a chorus of beeping red-breasted nuthatches is one of the truly hilarious sounds in nature.

The bird books don’t tell you the preferred habitats of a red-breasted nuthatch are the darkest crannies of unphotographable conifers. And their nonstop beep noises translate to “look how quick I am.” Still, it’s my birthday and I wanted a pic of my birthday bird buddy. #birds #HellYeahNuthatches

This is where we’re Thanksgiving-ing this year – it’s been bliss, even as the weather has turned sour. This scene looks peaceful, even as it came with the incessant sunset beeping of at least a dozen or so red-breasted nuthatches.
A teenaged girl stands silhouetted on a dock extending into a placid lake. Tall evergreen trees line the shore. The sky is a gradation from muted orange to deep blue.

We have them too in our 2019 Prius C (essentially a Yaris clone), which we bought brand new after riding a 2000 Honda Civic into the ground. Love the heated seats – but we still miss cars with knobs and dials.

Something I can't stop thinking about: On a whale watching boat out of Provincetown last month, we watched a migrating black-throated green warbler circle the boat before landing on a woman's hat under the canopy of the top deck & resting. Look at it. Haven't you, too, felt this level of weariness?

Detailed marker drawing of a Canada Jay. The gray and white bird is standing on the ground, leaning over with its head slightly cocked upward, giving it a curious expression. The drawing is photographed alongside some warm and cool gray markers and a micron pen.

They seem like a much bigger presence when they’re terrorizing house sparrows in the neighbourhood. But yeah, pretty small in the hand!

I was up early yesterday, at the marsh to see a whale of an autumn sunrise. A true crack-of-dawn affair, the sun slid past an opening on the horizon for this wonderful minute or two before clouds set in. Also I saw birds: geese, ducks, gulls, snipes, longspurs, kinglets, sparrows, eagles.
A vibrant sunrise over a silhouetted prairie marsh, with sky tones ranging from yellow to maroon and magenta. A vertical pillar of light extends from where the sun is about to show. A pair of distant geese fly in the sky.

I visited Oak Hammock Marsh this early today to watch the sunrise and morning goose flyout, and later visited the final bird banding session of the season there. And what luck – they caught a merlin! #birds
