MAJOR NEGATIVE: This is an actual OG FF7 problem, but it's brought to the forefront: They do not make any changes to the major plot. So there's major emotional discourse between deep serious moments and comedy. Queen's blood (fun btw)? BOAT ATTACK. Barrett/Dyne? Comedy with a chase scene.

WORLD, Good; Like above, when it's condensed, it's so good. Each town location feels more alive, the NPCs are very good. Borden, my beloved. I also like the inclusion of Cissnei from Crisis core; it adds everything to the world to include one of your key characters and a link to Zack.

COMBAT, THE GOOD: Air moves! Partner combos! It's so much more fluid and better at offense. So much more options and I thoroughly enjoy it more. When there's a great fight, it's extremely great- especially the final boss.

The World, negative: Take a ubisoft game, that we already don't like. Add in a bit more complication to getting the towers, or the shrines. Add in a small cutscene after each one. They become repetitve, tiresome. The hunts aren't much better. Everything is a ubisoft open world.

I'll start on my smallest negative; combat is better. Why is that a negative? Dodging, explicitly. It became better. So enemies were designed for the new dodge, which puts it back into the state of Remake; the dodge isn't good enough for the game it's in.

FF7 Rebirth: 7.5/10 Ultimately, this game is best described by 'one step forwards, two steps back.' I was amazed at Remake not being padded out. Rebirth is heavily padded out. Some of it is good. Some of it isn't.

budgets and unhealthy work conditions and layoffs, combined with a growing flaunting of how happy we are to pirate things, abuse towards developers, condemnation of entire studios/teams. I don't know how long this industry has before we lose everything.

Ultimately Zack's story is one ruined by the absolute worst voice direction I've ever heard, and finding out that it wasn't the original blew me away. It's so bad. Genesis and LOVELESS is such a weird plot beat that is important; an actual goddess exists?? Weird.

The side missions being I think over 100 of very basic travel in one of five dungeons to kill one enemy. Until is a boss fight. But even then it's... Very repetitive.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion: 6/10 Ultimately, the biggest flaw is: it's a PSP game. All the design of story and side is designed for you on the go. Combat still feels the same way. It gets to be the biggest slog because it does need you do the side missions.

Where this game ultimately shines is the two final fights; a grand set piece Vs the one winged angel for Cloud, and a desperate lab brawl Vs Nero for Yuffie. Two very different styles of fights that play to their respective strengths; both story and gameplay wise.

The Yuffie dlc kind of has the same issue of padding, but she, along with Sonon, are two of the best performances in the game. My god, Suzie Yueng and Aleks Le rule. Nearly cried at the end. Tyler Hochelin as Septhrioth and John Eric Bentley as Barrett in the main game as also stand outs.

Three sections of travelling through collapsed buildings and highways that frankly are just super dull and designed to let the Shinra destruction of their own city sink in with some very uninteresting puzzles and mechanics. Other dungeon esque areas in the game are better.

When a enemy wave with something that breaks one of the above, it's so god damn frustrating to deal with. Especially air because it's either Barret or Aerith to switch to and I did not dig playing as either for too long. The other flaw is, obviously, two big moments of padding.

However, two flaws do exist. Combat isn't the greatest; I think when the game works into your strength of limited air / range, with a rough dodge, it's fine. When however, the game either uses a boss that breaks all of this (Rufus, phantom) it's rough.

The newer elements however, are what stand out. The meta story of Fates forcing the game plot onto the old rails is fascinating, as is the idea Aerith and Septhrioth both know and understand more than it should. Incredible. Giving more depth early to the Shinra crew? Excellent!

Adding mini games, expanding characters and stories, making the general world deeper. Giving more depth to Jesse, Wedge and Biggs. On a story sense, the parts of FF7 that were already here are presented on a bigger, grander scale with such respect.

FF7 REMAKE (and DLC): 8.5/10. The thought you should know I had going into this was how do you pad out Midgard to a full game? In most cases, expertly. My god; they balance it put very well, especially in wall market, pre reactor 7 and shinra building.
