Ideally this will be 80% me discussing pro cycling with likeminded morons but there should be some other random stuff too. If I revert to Swedish I'm likely irate about some local issue that may or may not be relevant if you live in Kansas or Kuala Lumpur.

I know this is a (garbage)hill you are willing to die on but I don't think you will get them to change it.

So there's an Eneco Tour but it's not the Eneco Tour but another Tour that is now also the Eneco Tour. That's gonna cause a bit of confusion.

"Ronde van Vlaanderen is the race you want to focus on winning Paul, that's the most important one of all. Roubaix and E3 matter too of course but not quite as much."

A bit of a mixup of "who are all these non-road people" and "I can't remember anything from the last time I watched CX"

It's helpful but I find myself still saying "Im sorry but could you say that in cycling terms as it's all I really get somewhat" when I try to understad what Dutch and French people are saying.

And also paragliding, mogul skiing, cliff diving and rally racing? I'm actually kidding. I'm a big believer in top pros doing whatever the hell they want to mix up their training to make the grueling training lifestyle required of them enjoyable (or just bareable?) I'm sure it's better long term.

Also the entire French cycling establishment, TdF organisers, journalists, teams, fans etc., holding a pillow in front of their face and crying desperately to make it stop. For the love of God, make it stop.

Still the most worrying sign of the limits of women's cyclig that Norway couldn't sustain that race. Great organization, great concept, loved by riders by all accounts. I can't help but wonder if it had made a difference for local financing and support if a big Norwegian star had emerged?

The Merckxs comparison was always very apt with Vos even if it annoyed a lot of people. (And for the record I'm not entirely sure we've seen her full potential because on SD Worx, a well as they have functioned, she hasn't committed fully to some races because they have better obvious options.)

Same here. Gorgeous warm weekend here and there definitely hasn't been a sharp downturn here yet. Just a slow gradual need for long pants, and slightly warmer sweaters.....so far.

She's definitely Vos in the way she is vitually unbeatable in the races she comes primed to win but she is still less versatile in my mind. But some of her dominance is way more impressive than Vos' given the different level of competition she is up against.
020
Jens Hagström @jenscer.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
We can argue that they were different times and Vos definitely would not win a Giro today even at the peak of her powers, but I do think there was a dimension to Vos that Wiebes just will not reach. Wiebes would never have won Giros like the ones Vos did. Vos won on the Mortirolo. The Mortirolo.

Got off a hard days work at 10:15. Home at 10:30. Had a beer to quench the acute thirst, made a couple of chanterelle toasts and ate them with two glasses of wine. And now at 11:15 it's like I've been kicked in the head by a horse. In a good way.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

Well it's easier to uphold technically but probably incredibly hard , bordering on impossible, for a team with long term WT ambitions.

I can't imagine that is in the cards. They're just using the fact that he has dual citizenship as a loophole to get around their own little rule. I bet the only place you'll ever see "Bratli" is in their press releases.

Men tyskarna är ju tokiga. Alla städer har massvis med gator som de döpt till Einbahnstraße istället för att ge dem olika separata namn som alla andra länder. Otroligt förvirrande.

Hence you get more of the "disgruntled rider leaving" stories as opposed to other teams where the "disgruntled rider rides out his 2 year contract in misery before quietly signing for another team" story doesn't really makes make the news. Not saying the picnic system isn't odd, just over-maligned.
000
Jens Hagström @jenscer.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
But my point is we see riders mismatched with philosophies, training methods and personal attitudes on all teams. But on Picnic A: they've taken on so many more young talents so just statistically you will have more cases, and B: they have opened up for agents to move riders before contracts expire

UAE was a bit of a poory chosen team in haste, I just went for random big name teams. UAE are in the fortunate position of pretty much only taking on the most expensive cream of the crop these days and riders there don't go shit so much, the stagnating ones just turn well paid helpers.

For every public "disgruntled rider leaving" story there is any number of successfully developing riders who either stay or just happily moves on when they get more lucrative offers. We just don't get as many public stories about riders who go shit in the Visma, UAE, Ineos etc. devo pipelines.

Jens Hagström @jenscer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Ja, I don't believe much in that narrative, I think it's mainly bullshit. Yes, their model doesn't suit some riders and they move on. 100% like what happens on pretty much every other team except they have fewer talents in their programs and they aren't as open about it when they part ways .

They used to depend on a mix of a small pretty dependable group capable of scoring WT points and a large base of very good talents coming in and moving on fairly rapidly. But losing the stable core of experienced riders disrupted the flow of development in the talents as well.
100
Jens Hagström @jenscer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The tough fact may be that without a large influx of sponsor money they might be equally ill equipped to handle both life as a WT and as a ProConti team. It very much comes off as a team that should perhaps be a strong Conti development team and nothing more at the moment. Not their aim though.
000
Jens Hagström @jenscer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I'd say very legitimate concerns, especially the GT invites which could be a killer for a team with no natural Ita/Fr/Sp connections. But the team in its current guise just isn't up to handling their current WT commitments, maybe a step down could be a saving action?
