Be sure to check your kid’s Halloween candy I just found these critical life support supplies that disabled children don’t have access to due to late capitalism supply rationing in this snickers bar.

This meme is comedic because it uses the GI Joe format to remind disabled people to act in solidarity with each other

This meme is comedic because the characters from Mean Girls are using the term “losers” comedically, anyone who gets in the car to protect Medicaid is actually a winner.

Medicaid matters at every stage of life. But right now, some Members of Congress are pushing forward a budget resolution that would cut $880 billion in lifesaving care. We can’t let that happen. Join us in DC for a #ProtectMedicaid vigil. JOIN US —>

We joined @booker.senate.gov and @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social during their vigil today to talk about how Medicaid keeps disabled kids from being sent away to institutions, letting them stay at home with their families instead Here's @elenahung.bsky.social introducing Little Lobbyists (1.4x)

In addition to posts about Medicaid, I also have an ultra specific axe to grind with the Global Engineered Device Supplier Association (GEDSA) because I hate EnFit syringes so much. The reasons I hate EnFit are myriad and entirely valid.

NY Times is framing Medicaid cuts as a problem for state budgets and not a problem for actual human beings who will lose access to health care. People > state’s rights

In other states, legislatures included a trigger law that said “if Congress cuts the Medicaid budget, we get to take Medicaid away from poor adults” The voter backed proposition didn’t say that… so if Congress cuts Medicaid, poor adults don’t automatically lose their health care.

The legislatures / governors of South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Missouri (very red states) didn’t want to expand Medicaid to include poor, non-disabled adults. Voters wanted poor adults to have health care - so they passed propositions to expand Medicaid.

Headline should be: The Three States Where Poor Adults Won’t Immediately Lose Their Health Care if Congress Cuts Medicaid Medicaid cuts are bad because it’s bad when people can’t get health care, not because state budgets will go brrrrrrrrrr www.nytimes.com/2025/04/06/u...

This meme is comedic because much like cutting your own bangs because a tik tok trend told you it was easy is a bad idea, cutting Medicaid is a bad idea… except that instead of looking silly, people will lose their health care and die.

This meme is comedic because while Medicaid home and community based services (portrayed here as sexy Homer) is actually deeply dysfunctional mess of waitlists and complex rules that make it hard to access care at home (portrayed as the clips on Homer’s back fat)
Meme of Homer Simpson with his back fat clipped away from his body to make him appear sexy.

This meme is comedic because it uses the “is it cake?” gameshow format wherein cake is realistically decorated to look like non-cake items to demonstrate that lots of things that aren’t explicitly called “Medicaid” are in fact Medicaid. Cuts to Medicaid affect lots of things.

It’s cool and normal that infants who were not even born in 2021 when the recall was first announced are starting their lives on recalled machines and there is no coherent plan to mitigate the harm, much less fix the problem.

This meme is comedic because it pretends that my stupid memes are important. I reality, my memes don’t change policy but at least they inform the public, in that every time I post one I get a mom of a baby using a Phillips vent saying “the ventilator is recalled, no one told me?!?!!!”

This meme is comedic because Gru is excited at the idea of escaping the nursing home, but then discovers to his dismay that he can’t escape the nursing home because the Medicaid Waiver has a waitlist. Usually Gru’s plans fail due to his ineptitude, but this failure is due to the policy failures.
Four panel Gru meme with a sign

Panel 1 - I want to get care at home instead of being forced to live in a nursing home

Panel 2 - I apply for a Medicaid home and community based services waiver

Panel 3 - they put me on a waitlist

Panel 4 - they put me on a waitlist

While the general rule is that blue states are generally better than red states at helping disabled people get care at home, blue states still play budget games with Medicaid HCBS waivers. It’s embarrassing - even deep blue California has people stuck in nursing homes because they’re on a waitlist.
Three frame Spider-Man and Maryjane meme

Frame 1 - Maryjane tells Spider-Man “tell em the truth I’m ready to hear it”

Frame 2 - Spider-Man tells Maryjane “it’s not just red states being terrible, blue states have waitlists for HCBS waivers too”

Frame 3 is Maryjane crying
