There are 6,000 children trapped in illegal schools in England – many hidden behind claims of ‘part-time’ education. In reality, they’re confined to cramped rooms, forced to study scripture for hours each day. Donate today to stop this.
'Every child deserves the chance to explore the world through evidence and reason, not to be confined by dogma. Education should open minds, not close them.

Compulsory religious observance has no place in modern Scotland. As MSPs begin their scrutiny of the Religious Observance Bill, our new report reveals how pupils are being pressured into worship against their will. Read more in Preaching is Not Teaching: bit.ly/4lYUpXz

It feels deeply unfair, but at the same time, we want government to be free from the taint of corruption, so it's the right course. I do, however, feel very sorry for Rayner. NOW let's watch the press hold other politicians to these standards.

Collective worship is not education. It's religious observance. Yet in Scotland (and across the UK), state schools are legally required to lead pupils in acts of worship. So many parents are totally unaware. New report by @humanistsociety.bsky.social goes in-depth 👇

For Midwinter and as the most special night of the year approaches... Two reindeer carved from a single piece of mammoth ivory 13,500 years ago in Ice Age France. Now at the British Museum. The official interpretation is the reindeer are swimming, but we all know they are actually flying! 🦌🦌🦣🏺
Copyright Trustees of the British Museum. Here is the artefact description from their website "This sculpture depicts two deer following each other nose to tail. It is made of ivory from the the tip of mammoth tusk. Found as two pieces, it was rejoined along an ancient break between the two animals in 1905. As the sex of each animal is clearly shown, it is clear that the larger male is behind a smaller female and, as both animals have antlers, they must be reindeer because the only female deer to have antlers are reindeer hinds. This identification is further confirmed by the distinctive features of the hind's face, the detailed shading of the body showing the colour and texture variation in the markings of her coat and the smaller antlers. The antlers on the male extend along three quarters of his back which is proportionate for a mature stag. His face and body are not shaded in keeping with less variation in the coat. The forward extension of the antlers called brow tines are not shown extending over the faces as in nature because the shape and size of the ivory would not allow it."

As we approach Midwinter, here's The Black Stag from the cave of Lascaux. Considered to be either a creature of Ice Age myth, or a rendering of an extinct Megaloceros. Deep in the ground it was drawn above geometric symbols, including 13 circles, the meaning of which is now lost. #AncientSky 🌙🦌🦣🏺
Black rendering on white limestone of a stag with a very delicate face, pin-point eye and elegant outstretched neck extending back to a long back sketched in feathered strokes. On the head is a set of extremely ornate antlers, with many tines and palmate lobes. Around the muzzle of the deer is red ochre. Below is a clear square and 13 dots. Also in black

As we approach mid-winter, an illustration of cave art showing two Reindeer; from Font de Gaume cave, France. One is licking or smelling the other who appears to be sleeping? giving birth? dead or dying?. Originally rendered by someone of the Magdalenian culture, 16,000 years ago. #AncientSky 🦣🏺
Drawing of two Reindeer, outlined in black and unfilled with light brown colouring. One, large, bodly coloured with elaborate, forward facing antlers is, bending their neck down to sniff or lick the other. The other is large and appears to be laying down, head on one side?
