Over the past week, I’ve done a few school visits — and each time I’ve been taken by surprise when, after Reggie and Rover receive their pet talent show trophy, all the kids start 👏applauding👏! It’s a really sweet moment and I’m grateful I get to visit kids and share my books with them. 🐧❤️🏆

Book bans impact public libraries & bookstores, but it’s school libraries where they are rampant ❤️‍🩹 Many kids are unable to make it to the public library. They can’t drive, often times the library isn’t in walking distance. It’s not that their grown-ups don’t want them to be library kids. 🧵 1/11

A second grader asks the librarian for a book about a cat named Pete. She proceeds to give this information:

- Pete is NOT Pete the Cat
- Pete is light blue
- Actually, he’s kind of like a cat and a duck
- Everyone tells him no and “You can’t have more hot hogs!”

Suddenly the librarian shouts “Wait!” She holds up the book The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog. “YES!” the kid shots - it was exactly what she was looking for.

(P.S. The Pigeon is not a cat, nor named Pete!)
