Also, probably not for the girls, but this on the tube made me smile this morning, so I feel like sharing

It’s a tough one! Teachers are almost always surprised when they see the use of “power” in this first slide. There’s not even clarity amongst staff, let alone pupils. We’ve tried to build in some deliberate practice of simply saying the words a lot, but does it reduce the misconceptions? Don’t know

Then “communicating maths” - pupils get grades for *how* clearly they communicate their mathematics.

No external exam, so assessment come from knowledge tests, coursework-style investigations (anyone remember T-totals?) for pattern-spotting and generalisation.

Session 2 at #mathsconf38 and it’s @blatherwicksam.bsky.social on transforming graphs. Starting off with a great exercise going back and forth on linear graphs.

Also examples of getting it to make naff resources (and calling it “fun” like we’re in 2007). I don’t think we should even be considering a world where we let AI create naffness for us because of some vague notion of timesaving or ‘embracing the future’. We need to be better than this.

Just bee reading it all through. In one of the modules is this suggested use case for AL Sociology. Talk about stopping students doing the hard thinking. It really worries me.

I’m chuffed with how this one brings so much together for compare and contrast.

I have done an OAT Maths curriculum update in a while, what with not really going to the other place much. We’re getting close to finishing the five years now. Just released GM8 Surface Area and Volume and a gorgeous unit* on quadratic graphs and equations (A12). *Yes, I mean gorgeous.
