Do AI companies realise that unsanctioned penetration testing of other companies is actually just illegal hacking?

Polymarket, a US platform banned in NZ, is an interesting choice to use as a relevant data point on The Post’s election dashboard. Especially considering the widely discussed ethical concerns with it, including the potential for it to be used to intentionally manipulate elections.

I’m a Software Engineer and I’ve seen my peers split into two camps: one with an almost religious belief in AI, the other deeply skeptical with a particular disdain for the hype. Women especially tend to fall in the skeptical camp, including myself.

For Welly based people: I highly recommend Awaji Cafe on Victoria Street. Exceptional coffee (and tea) and you can get brewing methods I haven’t seen done elsewhere in Wellington. The owner/barista Aoi also makes the latte art into a cat for my morning flat whites 💜

I did a dramatic reading of this to my husband and when I reached the part about Claude Code I had to pause because we were both in stitches. Wtf does he think these businesses should be using Claude Code for?

My granny currently wouldn’t be allowed to vote under Winston Peters’ policy. She has lived in NZ for almost 65 years.

It’s *such* a shame we have no examples to look to when it comes to implementing automated decisioning in the welfare system. Oh wait…introducing Robodebt 2.0: Kiwi Edition www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Thank GOODNESS an open letter from Ian Taylor on the matter. This is such a relief, I had no idea what to think before this. We are so blessed to hear his views on everything in the form of such beautifully written open letters. A National Treasure. /s

I recently got married. I did not change my last name. Just saw today the Electoral Commission sent me a letter saying my enrolment details may have changed and I have to verify they’re correct or update them. My husband did not get a letter.

This is actually hilarious. Like obviously completely lacking in empathy. But also - AI isn’t even close to a replacement for an engineer and companies who tried to do that are dialling it back. And even then, in terms of coding, OpenAI models are FAR inferior to Anthropic.

It baffles me when I encounter people who think that the relationships of unmarried couples are less legitimate than married ones. Saying “I do” and signing some legal documents is easy. It doesn’t require much effort or commitment. Have they seen Married at First Sight?
