Between 1993 and 2021, Gallup found that Americans consistently favored lower taxes and fewer services. Across the Western world, trends show that countries where people trust their government are more willing to pay higher taxes and trust it to deliver services.

A Bain & Company study says that, to keep up with the current levels of capital expenditures, AI will need to become a 6 trillion dollar market by 2031. They think the relatively foreseeable stuff gets you to about $1.2–$1.8 trillion, so just another $4.2 trillion more...

The people who win primaries aren't the ones who increase competition and maximize freedom. If they were, we wouldn't be talking about affordability right now.

So revenues need to increase 4x to break even, and 10x to realize a 30% ROI. But that only covers the compute layer. Presumably, they would like to generate earnings from the application layer. My call: they'll run out of other people's money before the stack is profitable.

Trump is too fscking stupid to understand it, but this is why America can run a trade deficit. We have one because we spend more than we earn. We can do that thanks to capital inflows. A trade deficit is a privilege, not a weakness.

MAGA is wrong about literally everything. If marrying young, foregoing higher education, and adopting traditional sex roles were the recipe for marital success, then these results would be completely flipped.

The middle class did shrink, but not in the way most political commentators want you to believe. Approximately four-fifths of the movement out of it was toward the upper-income category, not the lower-income category.

I've been to the UK plenty of times, but I had to Google-map Piddington. It's the orange dotted line below. The world will soon be lining up to sign trade pacts with the Principality of Piddington, a market of 358 consumers, with formidable demand for tea, garden supplies and border-control signage.

Few charts better illustrate Trump's incompetence than this one. Since returning to Washington, he's been trying to push women out of the workforce. Tariffs were supposed to create manly jobs, and his anti-DEI campaign was supposed to disincentivize hiring women, and yet...

I suspect inequality wouldn't rank this high if billionaires weren't renting the city of Venice or Madison Square Garden for their weddings. What stands out in the poll is this: Within the parties, rich Democrats and poor Republicans viewed it as more pressing than their party cohorts.

My indicators are crossing each other, tell my friend Willie Brown. The next few days should be interesting, but since credit is leading and equities are enduring the pain, we're probably not (yet) slouching towards panic.

Why do we even have a State Department? Nobody could convince him this was a bad idea? "Sir," (with tears in my eyes), "what happens if Russia and China don't comply?" Then you have 3 choices: 1. Escalate 2. Back down 3. Pretend they aren't violating your ultimatum. None of these end well

I never met Washington, but I like to think he'd recognize Trump as the kind of leader they tried to guard against - an ambitious populist who would exploit public passions, subvert the rule of law, invite foreign influence, and turn a constitutional republic into a dictatorship.

If growth expectations are improving, I'd expect stocks and credit to rally together while Treasuries lag. If fear dominates, then I'd expect Treasuries and investment-grade credit to outperform stocks. Instead, I'm seeing stocks and Treasuries both bid while credit lags. #InterestingTimes
