Friend sent me this—I was VERY surprised by the answer I got. Want to take a shot and see if you get the same as me? Celebrity traitors: 6 people in a room from 21 total. 2 traitors amongst the 21. 1 of the 6 said "statistically 1 of us is a traitor." How likely is it? @howiehua.bsky.social ?

Like, obviously, I know what these things can do and I have full confidence that they can to do those things with fidelity, but my biggest concern was how many of them can I have, and I’m glad they have made that clear in the headline.

“you’ll be able to control several of them.” Wait they’ll let me spend MORE money?!

Possibly a reflection of general anti-AI / anti-datacenter / anti-screentime in education sentiments that are picking up steam.

Yup, it’s wild to me that there is a hero narrative surrounding those who serve but our government gives them (a shitty level of) basic services that all citizens get in most other wealthy countries. Everyone deserves more.

But notice how our military advertises how they’ll pay for your education, housing, and healthcare once you’re done serving. Fascinating that the most appealing points of the recruitment pitch are also policies that folks will call communist.

I loved learning LaTeX when I was a math teacher who knew little to nothing about coding and found myself needing to use it to do some contract work in edtech. It’s a very low floor high ceiling sort of thing.

I haven’t watched NBA since early 2000s. Are margins this large at all common these days, or is a 50-point in the 2nd quarter totally absurd?

One of my favorite fun fact is no one can know how many tokens a prompt will take until the output is done outputting.

@cbssports.bsky.social Please fix this bad design choice. If I look or breathe in the direction of my screen, this list of other things I can watch covers almost half of the screen. I chose to watch the thing I wanted to watch! Please let me watch it!
A live sports event, but half of it is covered by a list of other things available to watch, which is meant to be convenient but is actually really inconvenient and annoying when you want to watch the thing you chose to watch.

All of mine are finally down so I can resume this project. I’m ready to bravely admit that I don’t know how to find the print date. What do I do?

Anything with a Joe Diffie key change.

Our leading news organizations turned a cache of ultimately-innocuous emails into a scandal-coded weeklong series of front page stories leading into the 2016 election. If they do not cover the "emails from notorious pedophile implication the President" emails with the same fervor, it's curious!

Our society's moral failing isn't lack of "civility" or "respect for different viewpoints". It's that so many views are lacking in empathy/compassion that they support a government spending billons in weapons while scoffing at the idea of spending fractions of that to feed, clothe, and house people.

1. Eliminates encroachment into box, jockeying for position, and associated retakes 2. Penalties are already overpowered, which is maybe fine, but this nerfs them just a bit since it removes rebound opportunity 3. Gives keepers, defenders, supporters a proper moment to celebrate (best part imo)

Play should stop after a penalty kick is taken. It either ends in a goal or a goal kick if the penalty is missed or saved or improperly taken.

Well obviously all cars would be equipped with an 🚨emergency speeding button🚨 that when deployed would not only allow you to exceed the speed limit but would also notify law enforcement and share your location to come assist.

More queries does not necessarily mean users like it. It could mean that it’s taking users longer to find the thing they want / need.

As in, I think viewing it as combining like terms is a clever approach that feels more concrete to me than reverse distribution.

Jeff @jeffusive.bsky.social · 13/01/2025
I like that! I agree that we’re both looking at it with good reasoning. I was just trying to say that Howie’s approach would have made more sense with past me, who had to work **really hard** on the sort of distributive reasoning you and I are describing here.

Jeff @jeffusive.bsky.social · 12/01/2025
I had the same experience with this step. I like your explanation better than mine, where I had to convince myself that factoring by grouping was “undoing” some distribution like this.
