@gavinverhey.bsky.social In my opinion, Griselbrand, Sundering Titan and Iona should stay banned. The latter two will not make for more fun games, and reanimator certainly doesn't need a new best-of-class upper end target.

#magicthegathering The spoiled cards for the Marvel commander decks are kind of meh. T'Challa is intriguing, but this version of Captain America is functional but uninteresting, while Dr. Doom is a complete flavor fail, managing to capture exactly zero of what makes Doom an interesting character.

#mtgcommander #brackets How much does deck intent matter re: chaining extra turns in the bracket system. Decks with 5 extra turn spells, 5 ways to copy spells and multiple tutors for either are obviously bracket 4, but does running Time Warp and 1-2 copy effects move a deck from 3 to 4?

#MTGCommander My thoughts about the changes to the brackets and commander changes being considered. 1) If Urza and Kinnan aren't considered game changers, I'm not sure it makes sense for Seedborn Muse to be listed as a game changer. They do similar things - lots of mana - in different ways.

I've lived in D.C. for the better part of two decades. Nearly my whole adult life. Something folks aren't talking about--a giant elephant in the room--is the amount of "brand protection" going on right now. I don't mean fear of Trump or political persecution, although those can overlap. (thread)

This crap that so many in the media and political realms - including way, way too many Democrats - are doing right now, to try to convince us that Charlie Kirk was one of the good guys and is an innocent victim, is nothing but gaslighting on a national scale.

#EDH #mtg #brackets Just finished making changes to 10 of my decks to reflect expansion of the game changers list. In most cases I replaced tutors with less efficient tutors or some sort of interaction (about 50/50). I swapped in Clever Concealment for Teferi’s Protection in two decks.

#mtg #magicthegathering I am really loving Tarkir Dragonstorm. All of the commander precons are excellent, and I am finding myself slotting a lot of the new cards into my existing decks. Not counting Aetherdrift Verges, I have already slotted in mor Tarkir cards than I have from Aetherdrift.

I have received 11 emails in the past week asking for donations to various Democratic campaigns and causes. I have responded to each one with the same message: I don't plan to donate a cent to any campaign or to the party until Chuck Schumer steps down/is removed as Senate minority leader.

REPLACE SCHUMER WITH SOMEONE EQUAL TO THE TASK. There are great options. Adam Schiff Elissa Slotkin Rafael Warnick Ron Wyden Amy Klobuchar Elizabeth Warren Cory Booker Michael Bennett Tammy Duckworth Tim Kane Mark Kelly Jeff Merkley Patty Murray Jon Ossoff Sheldon Whitehouse. Bernie Sanders

@senatedemocrats.bsky.social Start acting as an actual opposition party. Sen. Schumer needs replaced as the Senate minority leader immediately. I will be making no donations to any Senate Democratic race or to the DNC until/unless he is replaced. I hope many others will make this same pledge.

#commanderbrackets The more I play in the new brackets system, the more I think mana base optimization should be listed as one of the benchmarks differentiating the brackets. A more optimized mana base - ABUR duals/shocks/fetches provides speed/consistency beyond what one associates with precons.

#commander @gavinverhey.bsky.social Some thoughts about the commander brackets and mana bases. Since bracket 2 is supposed to reflect decks as optimized as typical modern precons, optimized mana bases - ones with shocks, ABUR duals and fetches - might be noted as a benchmark for bracket 3+.

#commander I'm starting to revise some of my decks in light of the new bracket system. I only have 1-2 decks that can hang in what bracket 4 is intended to be (no-holds-barred, as powerful as possible w/o being cEDH), but many others fell into bracket 4 due to presence of 4+ "game changer" cards.

Over on FB @corrinalawson.bsky.social posted about comic panels that live rent-free in our brains. That got me thinking about longer sequences that do the same. I am not a big fan of Geoff Johns, the guy who scripted this bit, but credit where due: This just plan kicks ass.

Some journalists confuse BDSM, which is all about consent, and rape and abuse with kink trappings. Lila Shapiro's excellent article about the allegations made against Neil Gaiman is an example of someone getting it right; this article, which refers to the Gaiman stuff, is another.

As I have written in another thread, Trump and his cronies' pushing experienced, seasoned and competent career civil servants out of the FBI and other government agencies is a good way to end up not only with more flight disasters, but also with terrorist acts akin to 9/11.

Brewing Partners in #edh can be daunting! Here are some handy tips. Do you have some tips of your own? Tell me about them!

Brewing for Partners does not mean brewing for them equally
Vial Smasher the Fierce + Tymna the Weaver = ?

Every pair has a primary...
who will enable the deck to function
Card featured: Tymna the Weaver

Ask yourself these questions:
What cards help support your primary?
Can you cast your primary on curve?

...and an unintentional saboteur
who will distract you from your goal
Card Featured: Vial Smasher the Fierce

Ask yourself these questions:
Has a card been added to only support this partner?
How many cards provide minimal use without your secondary partner?

Let your primary drive and your secondary navigate

Your primary should:
Set your strategy
Enable your engine
Be worth casting every game

Your secondary should:
Help inform your glue (draw, removal, etc.)
Provide extra oomph
Only be cast if necessary

Decide which is which and have fun!
