I do remember reading books as a kid with my trusty 1938 Webster’s, held together by duct tape. I was too young to realize languages change over time. When I couldn’t find a word I took it to my mom who was shocked I’d found the old thing. She bought me a new one and I spent a day going through it!

I’m fairly certain they sent ICE and the National Guard into MacArthur Park in LA as an attempt to spark riots and justify harsher measures (such as bringing in the Marines, which they had ready). Fortunately word of the operation got out and nobody took the bait.

These styles are so much up my alley, I love clothes that are both functional and have a style to them. One of my favorite pieces is a Stockman Duster I bought 20 years ago and wore to work in SF for years (until I popped a pocket seam on BART and I haven’t found a tailor I trust to fix it properly)

They also had a healthy trade with the local Elves for centuries. They did dig up a Balrog though, so there is that. And Thorin Oakenshield went a bit spar over the Arkenstone when retook the Lonely Mountain and couldn’t find it, but cooler heads prevailed in the end.

I’m not saying this isn’t unfortunate, but McManis is a Central Valley bulk processor. 90% of their business was selling juice to other wineries, everyone is cutting back production and that’s what killed them. The picture used in the article is from Sunstone Winery in the Santa Ynez Valley.

I’m an old gamer and do get nostalgic for games, until I try and play them again 🤣. Some do hold up well (Sonic, Mario 64, Jak and Daxter) but most don’t. And the kid in me would have given his left-nut to play Skyrim, Outlaws or Hollow Knight back then.

It’s been decades for me as well, but I remember starting to read Nineteen Eighty-Four I HS and thinking, “This is terribly written.” But that was with the arrogance of youth and I was thinking of being a writer someday. It’s entirely possible I was just wrong, or mistaking an affected style.
