A new study shows that female bottlenose dolphins may keep mental tabs on problematic males in their social circles by tracking signature whistles. WHOI's Laela Sayigh says this finding illuminates how this species communicates and makes decisions. 📲Learn more: go.whoi.edu/natgeo-dolphin
A group of five dolphins swims gracefully in a vibrant turquoise sea under a clear blue sky, with a distant sandy shoreline in the background.

Sunshine or fog, you'll find Sarah, Maia, and Jeff recording Savannah Sparrows on Kent Island in the Bay of Fundy. This spring we're using field-portable sound level meters to study vocal amplitude in Savannah Sparrow song. @sdobney.bsky.social @biolumijeffence.bsky.social @ibiouwindsor.bsky.social

Thank you to a homeowner who kindly agreed to host a Motus Audio recorder in southern Ontario. This recorder is now sampling the flight calls of migratory birds passing overhead as part of the Motus Audio network, so we can better understand bird migration: motus-audio.web.app

We're testing out our latest prototypes of Motus Audio recorders in a campus recording studio. Led by visiting research student Jeff Dutter, with support from Natalie, Nelsy, and Madison. What effects do different plastic wraps have on our #nocmig recordings? Stay tuned to find out.
