At my university there are no phones at all. And no numbers published. So it can be hard if you want to reach someone with a medium besides email. We are stuck with Teams chat.

There has been a lot of news lately about smoke from wildfires in Ontario and other parts of the Canadian boreal forest causing poor air quality in parts of the U.S. But smoke knows no borders, and here in southeastern British Columbia we are suffering from smoke originating in Washington state.
Air quality warning from Environment Canada noting that smoke from fires in the U.S. are impacting air quality in Canada.

When the dewpoint goes even lower, as it often does here on the high plains, we get something called “Alberta mouth” when you wake up with a parched throat. There should be a bloody nose emoji for those high-and-dry conditions.

One of the best parts of my job, maybe the BEST part, is taking students outside to learn geology and environmental science. We are fortunate to have both amazing field sites around Calgary and the greatest curious and engaged students.

You assert that "...the conveyor belt of currents in the Atlantic Ocean [is] responsible for Western Europe’s mild climate..." This idea is at the very least debatable. Richard Seager has argued for decades that it is not important at all, e.g., www.jstor.org/stable/27858...
