Edited 4 panel comic of Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin's dad approaches Calvin and says "playing internet slang? I'll show you something interesting"
"The two types of slang are Nazi and AAVE. All slang falls into these two categories. Rizz? AAVE. Chad? Nazi"
Calvin responds "yeah"
Calvin's dad continues 'serving cunt? AAVE. -Maxxing? Nazi. Despite being actually funny, -slop is nazi"

The final panel shows Calvin, eyes wide as he struggles to sleep.

Reading this great piece, I kept thinking about Masayoshi Son: child of a pachinko parlour tycoon, and a true “Gambling Man”, to quote the title of his recent biography, whose bets helped shape this new digital gambleconomy (and then there’s the “statistical style” of SoftBank’s slide decks)

Of the books I read too early to fully appreciate, Guareschi’s “Don Camillo” might have had the biggest impact on me. Not even the plots (though I loved the one abt football), but the empathy with which the characters are portrayed. I want to think I see people the way Guareschi saw his characters

I witnessed a lot of these transformations in Poland, where prolific “ideas-entrepreneur”, after getting pushback for their sloppy, contrarian takes, started selling them to people who couldn’t care less about the soundness of ideas as long as the headlines and slogans sounded right

I think the "conjunctural intellectual" framework also helps understand the post-left contrarians who found themselves on the populist right after failing to sell the broad liberal left their hodgepodge of vulgar marxism and anti-globalism, and volkists turned out to be less picky customers

“Move fast and break things” culture escaped the Meta sandbox and hacked OpenAI www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/t...
In emails, the employees said they worried that OpenAI's newest artificial intelligence models were not being appropriately monitored during testing to gauge the technology's sophistication and to secure the models, according to messages viewed by The New York Times.
In response, OpenAI executives told the employees that the tests needed to move forward as quickly as possible to release the A.I. models on time. No additional security protocols were instituted, said the workers, who were not authorized to speak publicly on sensitive matters. Two OpenAI employees said workers had raised concerns for months about potential safety issues with testing A.I. models, including not enough monitoring. Employees also asked about vulnerabilities in the type of software the company was using to manage day-to-day safety, according to messages viewed by The Times. Each time, their questions were brushed aside or acted on too slowly, they said.

And it was merely a coincidence that they focused on an agency most vital for liberal NGOs in the CEE (I know several people who lost grant funding because of DOGE) and providing civilian aid to Ukraine? It’s really hard to believe there wasn’t an intent behind targeting USAID

In Poland, Meta is currently entangled in a very public dispute around ads promoting financial scams, e.g. using likenesses of local celebrities and politicians. I’m sure the news that they can be very effective in moderating paid content, if they want to, will be well received here
