New in Democratic Theory: Tobias Müller asks what kind of state democracy actually inhabits when it comes to religion. He identifies three conflicting state projects and argues they sanitise local democratic politics while fracturing the demos itself. Top work. doi.org/10.1017/S233...

New in Democratic Theory Cristina Lafont (Northwestern) asks: what if framing democracy around the religion/secular divide is a problem? Her answer: The state shouldn't single religion out for exclusion or for unique privilege. 🔓 Open access → doi.org/10.1017/S2332889426000199

New in FirstView: Waisanen & Becker push back on conflict profiteers. Americans are far less polarised than media often suggests. Before we "bridge" divides, we need to first *reveal* the common ground that already exists. OA: tinyurl.com/6sfrecfp #DemocraticTheory #Polarization #Democracy

New in FirstView: Celestino flips the script on Mexico's democratic decline. Morena's illiberal turn isn't the *cause* of the crisis. It's the *consequence* of a democratization that was always more procedural than substantive. tinyurl.com/kh87ms8x

New book share. UCL Press published our Sciences of the Democracies last week in open access PDF. Link: uclpress.co.uk/book/the-sci... A core implication of the book is that it seeks to revive basic descriptive research to lay the groundwork for stronger and more inclusive theories of democracy.
