just limits your options imo. Vegetarian food is good! fwiw, palm oil, cocoa butter, and coconut oil all have the closest melting points to lard and are the best options. If you use refined coconut oil, that is best because it does the texture thing you need it to do without an unintended flavor.

It is usually a mistake to believe that any one ingredient should be a substitute for another.

The key is breaking that meat component out into its formulaic parts. For guanciale, that is the salt, the maillard products, the umami, the texture, and the fat content. Incorporate one vegan ingredient that best represents each part of the formula, for each of those pieces.

I make a vegan carbonara using country croc plant butter, crispy tofu as lardons, and nori as the umami component, to approximate the intent behind guanciale. It tastes different, which is actually a good thing imo.

ive been seeing this happen a lot in retro games recently. all the new decomps and romhacks coming out are slop and suddenly all the fun in the hobby is gone. Its terrible what people Think they can do just by asking ai to do it

Unions promoted Jim Crow and racial exclusion in citizenship laws and neglect incarcerated workers. Some union leaders support ICE. And there are internal conflicts about the harms of AI. Unions are vital—and I’m active with mine—but, ultimately, unions are what we make them.

Getting a little nervous watching the AOC/MAHA backlash swing into "we must always trust the medical system" territory. Especially coming from folks who have never had to ask the medical system to give a shit about their ovaries being covered in cysts or endo scarring eating their intestines.
