Spare him. I’ll take on his Fate. Please.”
Vlad shifted in her arms.
No. No. No.
‘Die.’ She pleaded internally. ‘Don’t rise. Please. Take me instead - please.’
Aurelia didn’t fight him when he moved away from her. She didn’t look at him as he rose.
Nadia’s people were upon them. Any attempts to run now would be futile.
“I love you.” She murmured to no one but herself as she heard hooves approaching. “I love you, Vladimir of Austorin. My soul is yours.”

“My, darling.” Vlad leaned closer to her, his tone growing low and sultry. “Would you prefer it if I-”
“No.” Aurelia spat the word like it seared her tongue, raising her hand to her heated face. “Maker, you’re incorrigible.”
“You’d not have me any other way.” He entwined his fingers with hers.
“I would not.” Aurelia confirmed, giving his hand a squeeze.
There were many eyes on them - on the king who survived chasing a dragon and his lover who could walk beside him as if they were equals. Some of the eyes, inevitably, would deliver the sight to Nadia: Aurelia’s appearance was distinct enough that her sister would doubtlessly know it was her.

She wasn’t sure what was more staggering - the impact itself, which was nothing to scoff at, or the fact that Vladimir had raised a hand to her.
The same Vladimir who, several centuries in the future, took an oath to not harm her completely unprompted.
The same Vladimir who sheltered her with his body even after being gravely injured, himself, only to spare Aurelia pain.
The same Vladimir who’d moved away from Aurelia at the barest mention of her being scared of him now aimed a second punch to her face, blocked only by the chronos’ quick guard.

She used the last of her diminishing strength to pull Vladimir back towards herself, tearing an enraged cry from the vampire’s throat. He claimed the opportunity to punch her ribs hard enough for Aurelia to hear something crack, then knocked his forehead against hers with power that disoriented him as much as it did her.
She couldn’t keep this up nor could she truly subdue a man so determined to throw himself into a Rift. Holding onto Vladimir would only ensure that Aurelia perished alongside him and, as much as she didn’t want to leave him to die, the chronos had no intention to forfeit her own life in a doomed effort to spare his.

He owed her a kiss. It was past time for her to collect.

Aurelia poured everything into it: her ache on his behalf made her kiss him softly, as if he was made of glass, caressing his lips slowly as to not agitate the many cracks and shatter him. Her wish to soothe his hurts had her running her fingers along his cheeks, jaw, neck and shoulders, seeking to relieve some of the tension there. The pain that had settled in her chest when he confessed the true magnitude of his suffering forced a renewed wave of tears to her eyes, the salt reaching their joined lips and dispersing the sweet taste of him.
Vlad melted under her touch for a few long seconds before weaving his fingers into her hair and pulling her closer, breathing a sigh of relief against her mouth - as if she’d just taken on some of his burden, claiming it as her own.

Returning to my #university as a graduate was surreal. I forgot how beautiful it was. How green, how warm, how welcoming. I was too focused on surviving my studies to really enjoy it at the time so I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience it anew. I'm proud of myself for persevering. :)

TO MAKE THE SOUP: - heat up oil - chop the onions & sautee until golden - add garlic & stir - add spices & mix. If they stick to the pot, add oil - add water & lentils, stir then cover - cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes - add the lemon & stir - OPTIONAL: blend for a creamy, thick texture.

“It’s not funny!” The chronos hissed as she began feeling around the familiar lock with her other hand, having discarded the dagger. She needed to be quiet; one scratch of metal upon metal and the vampire would be gone.
“Please.” Aurelia repeated, her voice breaking as she spoke the word. “Please. Don’t make me watch you die.”

“Again you foil me, sister.” Nadia’s voice was nothing Aurelia recognized - soft and buttery and dangerous. She stepped through the portal like the travel didn’t hinder her one bit, fixing her headscarf with blackened fingers before looking down at Aurelia.
There were no words to describe the terror saturating every last inch of her body. She coudn’t move, couldn’t even breathe, and would’ve stood there staring at a woman that was once her little sister endlessly if Ianthe hadn’t set her sword under her armpit to pull Aurelia back alongside her. She must’ve been screaming, too, judging by her wide open mouth and the fury in her eyes, but Aurelia heard nothing over the static in her ears.
She ran. Obediently, helplessly, she ran.
