A mushroom you find poking out of the forest floor is just a tiny part of a fungus. Under the dirt is the mycelium, a massive thread-like network connecting multiple mushrooms. And since a mycelium can recycle parts of itself, regenerate, and keep growing, is it even the same organism over time?
