Artificial Intelligence has about 1% of the network size as a human. AI takes about a billion times more energy. AI still uses a Von Neumann architecture. AI is not ready. AI can't replace people. AI can do many useful things. Just not that.

Politicians like to say that if you give someone free food they will just stop working. That is not what I would do. That is not what the vast majority of people would do. Would you do that?

50 years ago I learned you never, ever write self modifying code. A small error is amplified to a catastrophe. Artificial Intelligence is using self modifying code now. There is an old saying: To error is human, but to really screw things up takes a computer. Don't do that.

I wonder how many of those 59 capitals with an arch were dictatorships at some point. For example the The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile was commissioned by Napoleon, an self proclamed Emperor. Perhaps, the USA has no arch because it was formed by removing the king then straight to democracy.

AI companies want to replace people. There is money in that. How does AI replace someone? We train it to program computers, communicate, and use the Internet. But we don't have AI we have Artificial Stupidity. It's the same as giving all that access to a stupid person. It will go badly.

Artificial Intelligence is not ready to replace people. We are decades away still. Trying to replace people makes lots of money. It is also the dangerous part. You have to give AI authority and communications. So just stop trying to replace people with inadequate tech for lots of money.

Given that the American people who had established laws and borders were trying to kill the European immigrants makes me believe they were considered illegal immigrants under contemporaneous laws.

Capitalism is a way for a country to share things. Socialism is another way to share. Capitalism only works with wealth. Socialism works with wealth or poverty. As the USA becomes a country of poverty, people begin to talk about Socialism. Don't want Socialism? Share the wealth before it happens.

No, you cannot switch to microPython. The Python in MakeCode is what a Typescript programmer thinks Python looks like. microPython is a stand alone IDE for micro:bit. Python.microbit.org

Scratch has a nice gradual learning curve. App Lab/Game Lab lead seamlessly into Javascript. MakeCode has two versions one for micro:bit and another for old school arcade games. Snap! has advanced programing concepts. A great first language, but a steep learning curve.

It is smaller. Unfortunately no on/off switch. It has a micro USB connection (like the micro:bit) for power. I am going to use the screw terminals with a battery box. A battery box with 4 AAA batteries weighs about the same as 2 eggs. For a walker weight is going to be very important.

However, right now I am trying out a board that just has a servo driver. I don't need DC motors for this curriculum. At least not yet. The board is Waveshare Servo Driver for micro:bit. It has a row of holes for pins to be soldered giving access to sensors. Also $12. I might standardize on that.

Don Wells @jdonwells.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Of the 11 different boards I have tried I like the DFRobot Micro:bit Driver Expansion Board (V2.0). It can be hard for about $12. It has 3v3 and 5v regulators. It will power 8 servos and 4 DC motors or 2 steppers. It has barrel and terminals for power, no USB.

Don Wells @jdonwells.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
So many possibilities! Power wise I like the 4 battery boxes. AAA and AA sizes with on/off switch can be had for cheap. Using NiMH batteries gives 4.8 to 5.6 volts. In a pinch you can use non-rechargeable.

I have not heard that distinction before. Reactive versus deliberative control. I see it though. I teach the kids to use a left hand rule algorithm to escape the maze first. That would be reactive. Then I teach flood fill. That would be deliberative.

There have been 2 AI Winters before. This is the third time down the same rabbit hole. Hype over AI makes a few people very wealthy. After the money dries up we will use the current advances where it makes sense. We won't call it AI anymore. We will call it generative networks or some such thing.
