Like I don't know how they managed to make a movie that was about AIDS, body dysmorphia/pressure, homophobia, and gay cliques all at once but good lord it worked. The theater could not stop laughing.

Ivan Turgenev's "Execution of Troppmann" is a short essay, published in 1870, that gives a first-hand account of the writer attending a public execution in Paris. Turgenev's details how the drunk, unruly crowd turned a somber moment into a carnival. A deeply moving essay; I encourage you to read it.

If the death penalty worked as a deterrent, no one in the right mind would murder. And yet here we are.

That being said yes this trend of big quarter-circle curves, wood, soft green, and concrete will absolutely look dated in ten years but what aesthetic trends don't

Lol who is saying that mid-century modern is cringey. If anything I see people saying that about Millenial Gray and Millenial Green.

Like from across the country Mamdani is so attractive mostly because "what if the city actually did stuff" is so refreshing and new after decades of NIMBY quibbling, fraud scandals, and incompetence.

fr tho - both the city I grew up in and the city I live in now have these Democratic machines that seem to exist just to waste time and money on nepotism and certain individuals' pet problems.

The blood hourglass in The Wizard of Oz. Did not help my still growing anxiety around blood. Also the stupid flying monkeys.

Re: Chris Rock, we need more people to understand that just saying you're sorry without actually doing anything substantive to repair the harm you caused and prevent further harm isn't enough. Faith (and by extension words) without works is dead.

There's a lot of other random songs that could go on there but it's hard to reduce it to albums

Sorry music is one of those things I'm very self-conscious about and feel like my tastes are weird and hard to describe so this is my best attempt

The Human Condition, by Jon Bellion
Love is Dead, by CHVRCHES

Reading primary and secondary sources to realize what you don’t know and how to analyze people who do know things (and cite other people) — but also make your own argument is great. I think a big reason I just do not get Gen AI’s allure is I learned how to research

If you couldn't locate Greenfield on a map of Massachusetts without looking it up, you don't need to be commenting on the house policies of a lesbian bar there. You can sit this one out, I promise.

Like I get it the story means a lot to a lot of people (me included) but maybe expand your minds just a little bit. Also! 1950 is when LWW was published! Bowie, et al. probably read it as kids!

"what's the driver" have you never taken a trip to see a weird relative? The entire story takes maybe an afternoon in the real world. The point of the Turkish delight isn't that Edmund is a sugar-starved war child, it's that he's a selfish pig who sells his siblings for a sweet treat.

What is it about Narnia that makes people so uncreative and glued to the source material
In book news, someone explain this to me.

If Gerwig is setting The Magician's Nephew in the 1950s (sigh), The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will then be set in 1995, so... what's the driver to have the kids go to the countryside?

Doesn't this just mess with the fundamental DNA of the series?

"what's the driver for the series" my dude have you never taken a trip to see a weird uncle out of town

Jacob @jdilladog.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Oh yeah Magician's Nephew is also one of the more interesting books that other adaptations usually never get around to so I'm curious to see how it adapts to the screen.

Chronicles of Narnia is 70+ years old, so yes please let's play with the setting and casting a bit and see what happens. Maybe - just possibly - it's telling a deeper story than one rooted in Lewis's time.

Oh yeah I agree he's certainly cringe lol. I guess I've also just gotten used to him being very progressive and pro-Palestine that the "ugh I guess I'll defend Macklemore" comments are funny to me.

It is kind of funny seeing all the apparent Macklemore dislike given how beloved he is here in the PNW. bsky.app/profile/gwil...
